I learned today that class of service,i.e. v k h m whatever doesn't have to be available for the airport to clear you in advance but the 100 still applys. This is an airport only procedure, not for reservations, and applys within 4 hours of the desired flight you wish to take. For example, say you're booked on a 3pm flight and you wish to get out at noon. It is now 8am and you want to go home on noon flight and want some guarantee for your 100.Well per the new policy if you go to ticket ctr within 4 hrs of your new desired flight and you're tktd in any discount which would normally carry a change fee if class available, but say there is only a handful of Y available, they will confirm you immediately and not make you wait til last minute. The 100 still applies of course, but you have a guarantee..so which is better? Take your chance at the gate for no fee no guarantee like the old days?, or pay 100 and guarantee your flight change within 4 hrs? I am sure everyone's opinions will be different, based on personal choices and personal patterns of making changes and of course THE WALLET>

Think of it as an illustration of how poorly they understand "spin".

The announcement could have said "US Airways relaxes rules related to ticket changes". There was no need to mention stand-by since the change doesn't actually change anything about the stand-by policy. They could have used it as a vehicle to gain goodwill and left the door open to still more positive change. But no, that would have been too easy.
