US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Noodle on this codeshare upgrade scenario

So I need to go out to Denver, then on to Portland and back to the east coast. Obviously, I want to take advantage of the Chapter 22 alliance. United will sell me a ticket that includes US code share flights with a connection through CLT on the outbound. The rest of the trip would be on UA metal and flight numbers. This scenario prices out the most favorably as I'm getting a circle routing on one carrier with the codeshare.

So, could a US Preferred use US upgrades on a UA coded flight on US metal?

good question, I dont think its been addressed. Email US and ask!

As an aside - why not get a routing through DEN onto PDX, with US codes? Is it not coming up? Maybe I missed something.

It's not coming up. I haven't been able to find any US code shares into or out of Denver. I addressed this in another post. Looks like the priority is ORD flights.

Youre right, sorry for not recalling the DEN issue. I suspect codeshares via DEN (and PIT/PHL) will be coming soon. Note I have no inside info on this, but it wouldnt make sense to limit them to only 2 midwestern-y hubs.

I saw my first US codeshare pnr the other night at work. It was a Silver Pref RIC-PIT-ORD-SLC-ORD-PIT-RIC in MAR 03. I can tell you that at this time upgrades do not apply on the codeshare flight, but E+ seating does. If booked thru US, anyway, and if pax DM Pref number is on res, agent requests either aisle or window and system answers a few seconds later with assignments. We have the ability to view the UA seat mask and can see which rows are E+.

Thanks as always for the personal attention, BWI2..

While we're waiting to hear about upgrades on UA, advance E+ seating certainly takes the edge off a bit.

That's interesting because the silver desk told me that there was going to be no E+ for US preferreds. (However, E+ apparently becomes a free-for-all at check-in.)

I strongly suspect that the only upgrades will be via miles, if at all. Remember that no *A carriers except LH offer any sort of UG possibilites to UA pax.

I did call the Preferred desk and I think the question threw them for a loop. After checking with a supervisor, the agent came back and said that they believe the answer for now is no, you may not use DM upgrades on UA flight numbers flown on US metal.

So, because of this silly rule, I'll book the entire circle trip on UA metal and US will see no benefit from the code share. Those guys in Crystal City really have this thing figured out, don't they?

If your code share circle trip is 5 segments, 2 of which are on US metal, I was under the impression US received the revenue for those 2 segments.

I thought I read, perhaps on FT, that under the code share agreement, whoever flies the metal gets the $. Doesn't matter who issued the ticket, whether an 016 ticket or 037 ticket, the metal determines where the dollars go.

Anyone have the factual info on this?
