US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Can US flight be credited to some other airline's frequent flyer program?
I searched the board and perhaps missed it, but as far as I can tell, the miles for the flight I am about to take can be credited nowhere else than to the US Airways program, from which they cannot be transferred.
Hmmm . . . this is sounding less and less interesting. Luckily the price was good.
And award redemption partners are dropping like flies.
Am I missing something in this somewhat bleak accessment?
I thought about upgrading a leg of my return flight with the miles from flying across the pond, but I am not sure that they and the 5000 mile bonus for a European resident taking a first flight will post quickly enough to pull off that trick.
Suggestions?
Thanx.
PS I should add that the trip is from Europe to Canada and back.

You can have the miles for your flight awarded to your UA MP account. This must be done pre-flight, as the miles cannot be transferred between programs once they're in one or the other. UA is probably a little more useful for you because of the Star Alliance. Rumor has US joining the *A, but nothing is certain.

Addicted to airline miles? Check out: Mileage Workshop (http://www.mileageworkshop.com) --- "You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer." - Frank Zappa (1940-93)
Hmm . . . between two bankrupt airlines? One of which is mentioned in the same breath as Chapter 7 . . . .
I have most of my miles within Air Canada of Star Alliance fame. I am not sure whether and how that would be a consideration. Can UAL miles be combined with AC miles in reserving an award ticket?
Can UAL miles be converted into the Starwood program? It looks like the Hilton program works.
I am having trouble making sense of this offer from US for 5000 miles. I enrolled. But does it suffice to simply fly a leg, probably an ocean leg, but perhaps even just a leg within North America to activate it? That way I could get some or all the miles over the ocean for UAL and get the 5000 miles with the connection from PHL to YYZ:

"Europe Residents -
5,000 Mile First Flight Bonus 5,000 Bonus Miles Ongoing
European customers that enroll in Dividend Miles can earn 5,000 bonus miles. Fly approximately three return transatlantic flights in a year, and earn 25,000 miles, enough for Silver Preferred. Silver Preferred members receive upgrades and a 50 percent mileage bonus on all US Airways flights.
Terms and Conditions: Bonus offer is not valid for residents of North America, Canada or the Caribbean (including Mexico). Offer is only applicable to transatlantic flights originating in Europe. Special enrollment offers are subject to change with or without notice. Flight mileage is based on return trips between London and Philadelphia."
There is another promo on the same page for 10,000 miles for Y, B or M fare classes on a round trip. But I am K. And the promotion ends on the 31st. Whereas I fly before Christmas and return in the New Year. So I see no way to get it.
I see no offers for a first flight with a UAL partner, but the miles seem safer with them, as I can move them to HH at worst.
Am I missing something obvious? Deranged in my thinking?
Thanx.

You would need to fly with U for the transatlantic portion.
