Any speculation as to whether the triple base miles promo on the Shuttle will continue past the end of 2002?

I would hope that US believes that while they're in bankruptcy, incentives to make consumers choose their product are a good idea. If it works and more people fly, they'll stay in business. If it doesn't work, they'll go out of business (which is what I hear is likely anyways), and those triple miles will be worthless anyways. But who knows? US Air seems to think that customers are a problem. If they were smart, they would target everyone with tier bonuses on top of the triple bonus. DL seems to never have tier bonuses like those on US. A SkyMiles rep said that DL was going to keep the triple status qualifying miles promotion going into the new year.

Where did you hear that DL was going to keep the triple miles into 2003? I am a DL PM, and my observation is that the DL promo was always a reaction to what US Air was offering. Reason I asked about US keeping the triple deal going is that it would be a sure bet that DL would follow.

I would think so for the following reasons:

1) Light loads to and from LGA where land based traffic competes.

2) Aggressive competition from DL, and AA entering the market.

Also, note that UA also gives non-status triple miles on IAD-JFK/LGA and IAD-BOS.

re the "light" loads. I certainly don't know what they actually are, but my shuttle flights (twice per week) have been fuller for the last two months.

I do belive the competition means the triple base miles will stay.
