What happens to our Dividend Miles if U.S. Airways goes out of business? Is it true that sometimes airlines may transfer a small amount in lieu of earning that traveler's business?

Is it true that sometimes airlines may transfer a small amount in lieu of earning that traveler's business? ITRADE Nov 12, 02, 3:29 pm When TW got gobbled up, AA took the miles. OTOH when Ansett when belly up, the points disappeared IIRC. That being said and given the competition level amongst carriers in the USA, I'd imagine that carriers would pick up US member totals. clanson Nov 12, 02, 3:35 pm The only major airline failure in which the FF members were left in the cold was the recent demise of Ansett in Australia. Here in the USA, Pan-Am, Eastern and TWA FF members all ended up with miles/points in another program. PHL Nov 12, 02, 5:33 pm TWA was an outright bankruptcy purchase from AA, so it would have made good business sense for AA to retain the TWA members and their miles. As for Pan-Am and Eastern, since they just simply went belly-up, what exactly happened with those members' miles? Did other airlines take them all, or a portion? Did they match status? Does anyone have direct experience with those situations? CoMooter Nov 12, 02, 7:50 pm PA=DL EA=CO |
