Does anyone know whether 2002 CP miles over 100K will still be transferred as tier miles for 2003?

Given events of the past week, I'd say definitely not. They're trying to REDUCE their elite levels, not grow them.

The benefit was given last year due in part response to the travel downturn after 9/11. I don't recall them doing that in previous years.

You are correct that last year was the first time miles were carried over. Can't even guess if that will repeat next year, since the left hand hasn't a clue what the right is doing in this company.

I highly doubt they will carry over - I think it was a one-time 9/11-related feature.

Not that I would mind - I think I would be set until Feb. '07 <g>

There's no way they'd carry-over two years in a row, folks would be starting the year with 100k miles plus easily (I'm sure there were a few CP's who started this year with that much to begin with).

They'd do something else maybe, but not a rollover like they did last year.

They also reduced the qualifier to 80k miles or 80 segments after 9/11.

They will definitely NOT be doing this at the end of the year.

Never say never! If I told you at the start of the year some of things that US Airways would be doing later in the year, you would have said "never" then. Never underestimate the power of Ben's MBA education.

According to the DL board, Delta's doing it for some their platinum members ... for people who made plat by Sept. 18, flight miles from 10/15-12/15 will count toward next year's status. US could start something similar for flights after 11/1 (when the majority of the GOM codes expire).

I would have swore that Beckles would be right, and perhaps he is, kind of. However, I think the mistake that he and the rest of us have been making is that we are assuming that US Airways believes that the elite flier is important.

Well, it looks like I was probably wrong, what I overlooked is there are other protections they can put in place that I think they will to make the promotion feasible considering last year's similar move.

I believe that they will count miles/segments earned this year and not include prior year's roll-over balances towards this year's promotion ... the wording provided so far seems to indicate that might be true:

"all of the Preferred Miles and Segments you fly beyond 100,000 miles and 100 segments in 2002 will be added to your 2003 Preferred Miles and Segments balance."

Notice that is specifically says "fly" and not "earn" or other such wording.

I could understand not double counting last years carryover. But I hope they do anyway http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'd expect that they at least count the 500 mile minimum as well as things like the 10,000 mile platinum visa bonus (that bonus is otherwise utterly pointless... you'd think that for $25,000 that it would be more important to them.)

And IMHO they ought to be counting the tier miles (and segments) bonuses -- that is after all the point of offering them. I guess I could accept that they might not be willing to count 4 or 5 iterations of GOM though.

Now, here's the real important question...Do I get to participate in the carry over promotion? I have not seen anything in the mail that indicates I do. Of course, I do not want to sign up for a promotion that I am not eligible for. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Nevermind. I got the email about the carry over. I might be able to only travel twice next year and still retain CP for another year!

Just FYI - I made CP last weekend and called the Gold line yesterday to be transferred to CP line. Spoke with a very nice man, he congratulated me on my new status, said something along the lines of "we're a dedicated group of about 90 here...", gave me a comprehensive run-down of benefits. The told me that all miles over 100k flown this year will count for 2003 status. So this MUST be for _all_ CPs it would seem. He also mentioned great new online upgrade capabilities starting "in a month or two". Very good customer experience. Since then, I have called twice to have existing reservations modified, like my PHL-BGI-PHL honeymoon this Saturday. No more certs! Looking forward to the CP package. Do they contain new tags?

I got my CP packet last week. Sorry, no tags. I got the systemwides for me and a companion. The card states valid through 2/04 which I sadly surmise means no kit in March with another set of systemwides.

You're correct. They remedied that loophole last year (I believe) - since a lot of folks would get the upgrades if they qualified before October, and then receive another set in March. Oh well.

Those who have gone through multiple new levels this years (from nothing through Silver and Gold), have received multiple sets of SWU's.
