US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - USAir Promotion -- reduced mileage for travel

USAir currently has a promotion for using less miles to the Caribbean (25,000 vs 30,000, award code: USZ919).

I redeemed miles before seeing the promotion (miles redeemed in Jan 2002 for flight Oct 2002).

When I saw the promotion, I called and asked that I be allowed to recoup the 5,000 miles for the two tickets. Was told to call AFTER the trip, and request that miles be restored.

Is this correct? Has anyone had a similar situation? Was this a brush-off?

TIA for suggestions/comments.

You could call again and see what they say ... I'm surprised that they would refund the miles, before or after travel. If I were them I'd tell you that you could redeposit the miles (paying the applicable fee of course) then redeem for the new award ...

Yes,

I have had this experience and yes they did it after the trip. Once you take the trip, call them and they'll adjust it.

Just make sure you ask them to document that you called before the trip. Also be prepared to give them the correct code for the lower award.

In my case I redeemed two tickets using 25k miles each, and got 10k each back for the tickets (converted 2 regular awards to Estatement awards).

Again, thanks for your replies.

The system does work. I returned from my trip on Saturday; called USAir on Monday, and the 5000 miles were restored to my account.

All I had to provide was the award code, and ff account.
