I'd love some suggestions for a restaurant for a mid-February dinner.

It will be for approx 25-30 people (about half of whom are young teens girls). One huge table not necessary...we'd be fine split up among 3 or 4 tables.

Looking for something moderately priced (<$30 / head). Walking distance from the JW / Willard. Could be a Saturday or Sunday evening.

Thanks.

Zaytinya perhaps? Great food, small plates, can eat there for under $30 a head. Might need to get a reservation now though!

The Old Ebbitt is close and can certainly accommodate this crowd.

Zaytina has great food, but if you go there, be prepared to shout. The music is earsplitting.

Here is the Washingtonian's list of 100 best bargain restaurants, though many are in VA or MD:

If you are willing to go to Northern VA or to Silver Spring or to Anacostia, any of the Ray's restaurants are outstanding. (Not listed: Ray's the Classics in Silver Spring, MD, easily reachable by Metro).

We also love Meskerem, an Ethiopian restaurant in Adams Morgan.

Good luck and enjoy.

Matchbox at Gallery Place has room for large groups (if you notify them well in advance) and serves pizza and burgers, as well as more complicated fare, so it should be a good match for potentially picky kids.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I forget about Ebbitt and the reminder prompted me to check their menu online. That may work.

Any others?

How about Founding Farmers by the World Bank? Not too far. Outstanding brunch. I heard dinner is quite good too and definitely plenty of space.

You can look into PJ Clarke's on 16th and K. They have a private dining room downstairs that could fit everyone.

I second Founding Farmers. They have room for parties upstairs and downstairs -- just be sure to make reservations for your group as soon as possible, as it's hard to get a reservation for even just two on most nights at the last minute.

This place is very popular with us GWU folk - sounds compatible with your demographic.

Matchbox at Gallery Place Hmmm...are there two Matchboxes in DC? Cause the one I googled seemed like a happy hour, dress-to-impress kind of place.

Three, but they're all run by the same people and basically the same. The Chinatown one has a bar right at the entrance, but it's a multi-story restaurant and the upstairs is quieter and arranged to accommodate reasonably large groups. I had brunch with 10 there the other weekend.
