"Please note that you must be preselected to qualify for some bonuses."
Just heard this when I called to register for a couple bonuses. Wasn't on there yesterday, if I remember correctly.
Let's hope the bounty is not ending; I'm relying on my CDG trip next week to make CP!

You are correct. That addition is totally new as far as I can tell. I called on Tuesday night and it definitely wasn't there. Interesting....well, we'll see if they really follow through or not. Hopefully not. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

This cockroach has requalified legitimately but I am glad to have free loaded more and more http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
Taking more flights on US are tempting since the fares are cheaper for my cockroach leisure activities than on AA.

I've figured "things" would last at least through 10/31...and now I'm *counting* on that. If not, I'll kick myself for not manufacturing a reason to GOM.
On the other hand, I might be the only person in the "non preferred" line @ checkin next year...

................................
I wonder if this is given to DM members who do not fly "enough" but are still either a US 2 or 3??
As a US1 (112 segments flown already this year) was not sent the "get out more miles" promotion information. A coworker of mine who doesn't fly USAirways as much as I do told me of that promotion and a few others.
Could they be selectively ignoring those of us who "live" on the airline?? Curious!

Do we think they just threw that line in to deter would-be cockroaches from getting out more (and more and more...)?

5+ years as a loyal CP (aka "Cucharacha") to US and I have never -- I repeat NEVER - been "pre-selected" or sent a bonus code offer that wasn't already announced on the website or in the monthly mailings (same holds for when I was US2. So who is pre-selected? Is there a secret US.5 group no one dares mention? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

It doesn't make sense to offer enticements to people who are going to fly come hell or high water. Thus the targeted offers are either geographic (everyone with a zip-code in Ohio) or based on trying to motivate people who aren't flying to start flying. They probably actively exclude preferred members from those -- likely with extreme prejudice against US1s.
OTOH people who are going to fly no matter what are also very valuable -- so they want to somehow encourage them not to stray from the fold. Thus it does make sense to offer bonuses to people who fly your planes every week and who put up with the experience week, after week after week -- the PHL bonus springs to mind http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Thus the terms "bonus code" and "bonus miles".
US cannot make up its mind which category many of these things fall into. We cockroaches on the other hand have no trouble whatsoever figuring it out...

Does CP stand for Cockroach Preferred?
I start my new position 10/21 - Supposedly the new company purchases fully refundable fare ONLY! I was told there are NO Exceptions. Am I still welcome as a cockroach? Please advice! If not how do I get reinstated as a cockroach?

Fully refundable fares only? Geez... how much longer are they going to stay in business?
Must be nice to be able to pass the costs to clients/customers... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Interestingly enough this company is the market leader in my industry and continually delivers top tier profits! Their are only about 25 of us who get this treatment due to the nature of our positions. I don't think the cost of our tickets impact the bottom line of a 17 Billion company.

PineyBob - are those refundable tickets part of your company's bottom line, or do those charges get passed onto a client? I know a lawyer who travels a lot and has "stipulated" in her contracts with clients that they are to reimburse for full First class tickets. What a racket.
On the topic of this post - does it surprise anyone that they may be now cracking down on this? Surely Ben has seen all the bonus code threads and realizes that there are a lot of bonus points being awarded where they are not intended.
Why should he offer extra bonus points to someone who already flys a lot and reaps the preferred status benefits. Bonuses are designed to stimulate travel, so targeting them to a specific geographic area or a group of low activity travelers is a cheap way to dangle a carrot and get some revenue.
That being said - I'll sure miss the multiple promotions if the system really does start denying registration. At least I've made CP for 2003.

Maybe they know all about it, but are afraid of backlash if they "fix' it. Who knows? Other airlines seem to know how to restrict bonuses, but ssshhhhhhhhh. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Partly. But they also exist to reward top performers. A US1 who has his butt in a seat week after week after week is deserving of a bonus. Especially if (s)he is flying on routes that U needs the traffic on. We may be cockroaches but we're steady and dependable cockroaches...

My expectation is that they'll "fix it" by starting to clarify and enforce the rules. And they'll get smarter about redundant duplicates. As I recall CO went through this about a year or so ago...

And where might that be?? Since Ben backed off the proposed changes, the US DM program is still above the rest. The code-share and future Star Alliance make it all the better.
Just my opinion....

fair enough -- but the risk is probably worth the 7500 extra miles! particularly as tomorrow's flight is a non-cockroach flight and so the philly bonus is a triple bonus...

I agree, Tom. As we all know (paraphrased from the website), US reserves the right to make any changes it wants to at any time regarding the DM program.
We haven't seen the tail-end of this yet, I'm sure.

There isn't much fear of that. Redemption controls are pretty tight...
If only there were some way to convert miles to dollars (or tangible assets of some sort.)
I'd happily sell my balance back to U for $0.02/mile http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Earth to PHL, Earth to PHL. At this rate, people bragging about their miles will get US on the ball, reviewing activity, and cancelling thousands of miles for everyone on this forum.

I don't think what I posted is any different than other similar posts. US is very aware of how their bonuses are being used.
