So I called Consumer Affairs to get a refund on an old unused e-ticket...

It's in my wife's name so they won't let me use it. Real smart of them. If they would let me use it I'd be applying it towards one of several rather pricey tickets that are in my future. You'd think that they'd like that idea. Now I'm going to work hard to find cheaper options -- probably mud colored.

Anyway it's a little more than a year old so -- get this -- they want $100 to process it (the new revenue source.) By my calculation they've already made nearly that much in interest off of this ticket... do I have any sort of choice? Sure, just let it sit there and they'll eat the whole thing...

Anyhow -- they're going to refund it (less the $100) to my AMEX. (Yup, the same one that never worked for AMEX bonus miles...) But, of course, that AMEX is dead and gone. So now I get to wait and see if AMEX sends me a check or sends the check to the now bankrupt company that the card was associated with or if they reject the refund. If they reject it then, in theory, U will write me a check. But if it comes to that I'm sure U will decide to do something silly like issue a travel voucher in my wife's name or something...

Airlines really are something.

Good going on the refund offer!

I've been told my a couple of CC agents that even though an account is "closed", it is still open to receive a credit.

When a credit balance is on an account, the CC company normally holds the credit for 3-6 months before automatically sending a check for the refund. I have gotten refund checks sent within a week of my telephone requests.

The check would CERTAINLY go to the original owner of the account (your previous employer?).

It was a "corporate amex" -- I paid all the bills (including for the one for that ticket -- which I was never reimbursed for) but it carried the companies name on it underneath mine. The account was closed 8 months ago (and I stopped using it a year ago) so with any luck AMEX will bounce the credit back to US.

(I've never really understood the point of that whole "corporate card" thing...)
