According to the rules (as I understand them) a Gold Preferred member is supposed to get 4 NAUs for 10K Preferred miles and 8 NAUs for 20K.

I did a r/t to LAS early in the year and even though it was only 5K miles r/t, because of a "counts towards preferred points" bonus, I got 10K miles and got 4 new cert in the mail a couple of days later.

Last month I got out more and picked up about 35K miles, 20K of which were preferred. According to the USAir.com site, I have 35K Preferred miles this year, so I probably should have received the extra 8 certs, right? I'm not sure that it is worth calling to have them inspect my account and see all the bonuses, but with the upcoming change in the certs program, it would be nice to have the old ones to trade in for the new, 500 mile certs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
S.

No, only ACTUAL flight mileage is what counts. How many actual miles did you fly?

Actual mileage was definitely low, but that doesn't explain why I got the certs after my r/t to LAS at the beginning of the year.

Is it 4 for the first 10K miles, and then 8 more at 20K total miles or 20K additional miles?

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I think just about everything in your post is wrong. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Golds should not ever receive only four NAU's, the minimum is eight. Silvers receive a minimum of four.

Bonus preferred miles have not counted towards the upgrade counter during the time I've flown US. The only time miles above base miles count towards the counter are class of service bonuses when you fly in Envoy or First on a paid ticket.

Well, either you are forgetting about another flight you took, or you were very lucky!

Don't forget that the cert counter resets at the end of February of each calendar year, NOT at the end of December. Thus, it seems to me like your trip at the beginning of the year bumped you up a 10,000-mile threshold.

Davo,
That's what I was trying to say, but I couldn't think of a way to say it so succinctly. Thanks. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
