Flying US 995 PHL to TPA every Sunday night, it's exciting just to get a new Attache magazine. So what a surprise tonight to find headphones on the FC seat divider. Then our FA, Rick, announces that it's his birthday, and he's showing "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" movie in FC,, plus a delicious meal, and, by the way, peanuts in coach.
So, on an east coast, 2 hour flight, we have not only a good meal, but a movie! Only in first. Who knew that they could lower the Air Bus 319 screens only in first, and keep them up in coach?
Normally, on this flight, everyone has his laptop open, spreadsheets examined, noses in papers. But tonight, thanks to Rick, every single seat is watching the movie (most have already seen it), laughing out loud, asking for more wine (Rick has the cart ready -- it feels like Envoy), almost dancing in the aisles saying, "Opah!"
In short, the most enjoyable two hours spent on US in years.
This is why I love US -- every so often, in spite of, or because, we're number six or seven, someone does something special, and we all have a great time. -- Except in coach, of course. (Well, who knows, I wasn't there -- maybe they had even MORE fun??)

Wow! I am sure the people in coach were very happy about you half-gods up there having fun watching the movie!
If the FA lowered the screens only in FC on purpose, I would be fuming if I had been in the back of the bus on your flight.
While he probably broke the distribution rights for the film, I don't see any reason for him to do so only for the FC cabin.
Your account of Rick's generosity to FC passengers has an undertone of 'f*** you, coach cockroaches'.
Sorry if I am a little brisk in my reply, no pun intended http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Well, I must respectfully disagree. This plane came from Seattle, and the movie was shown according to normal procedures. Evidently, there were enough headsets left over to re-show it only for First (not enough headsets for everyone), so this really great FA decided to show it to FC. Is that terrible? This was my 108th flight on US this year. Frankly, I think I deserve a movie, even a left-over, that, well, if there aren't enough headsets to show it to Aunt Betty in coach who is making her first flight this year, well, gee. A flight attendant made an extra effort, and if only FC could appreciate it because there were only a few left-over headsets, then, thank you Rick. At least someone appreciated your extra effort. I don't think there was a slight involved at all -- just a opportunity to do a little something extra for some of us. And I for one say thank you Rick, and thank you US Airways.

BTW, I took a PHL-IAH flight recently where the FAs decided to show a movie as well, something that is rarely, if ever, done on this 3-or-so-hour flight. They showed the movie to the entire cabin though -after having sold a few headsets in coach. It took them a little while to get things going with the IFE on the A319 but they managed. Too bad the movie was the incredibly dull, "Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood". I was still appreciative of their effort nonetheless.

Jeepers Mr. Back of the bus! Did Mommy starch your underwear today. Somebody caught a break and got a little extra and you are whinning? I am tickled to death whenever these Rat Bas**rd Airlines do ANYTHING Extra for anybody. Great to hear that someone got a pleasant surprise. Perhaps next time I fly it will be my turn.

What if Aunt Betty back in coach paid more for her ticket than you did http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif?

Then poor ole Aunt Betty is outta luck ain't she? The issues of pricing inequities should be taken up with US Air! NOT with those of us who leverage the existing insanity to our advantage! I have often stated that I love rules! Give me a rule book and I will find a way to pervert it to my advantage. To me the beauty of this site is I get to interact with the creme de la creme of rule benders, breakers and others who make life work for them in the best way possible. Remember we didn't create the FF programs, we just milk them like the cash cow they are. Frankly when it comes to airline and hotel award programs it's all about ME pure and simple. They can strap Aunt Betty to the wing for all I care! as long as MY seat is wide and the drinks are free for ME!! If I use my Platinum Status and they boot Aunt Betty from a room to accomodate me? Oh well the Motel 6 is clean and they'll leave the light on for ya!
Sorry if this seems harsh! But at least I am honest and besides when did anyone tell you life was fair? Aunt Betty's problems are Aunt Betty's not mine! Besides I am busy trying to get compensation for being stuck in a middle seat as a CP on a flight from MSY to CLT awhile back. Besides any perks i get from the airline I feel I am owed due to the way they treat customers

PineyBob, I think you need to live a few years under MILITARY COMMUNISM! That should teach ya a lesson, you http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I personally never ever take advantage of the airlines and their pricing systems... Not even when I could fly from Nashville to San Fran for $89 rountrip in First Class!
(Oh, wait, maybe I do- but only sometimes!)

If it were my Aunt Betty and she'd had the good sense to discuss her travel plans with me prior to departure she'd either:
1) ... be sitting up front as a result of having paid for a full fare.
2) ... have paid what a coach seat is really worth.
3) ... be flying for free.
4) ... be flying for free and be upfront because she baked me an apple pie http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

A wonderful story, thanks for sharing. Its a shame that such a wonderful experience cannot be brought to the attention of the USAirways Consumer Service/Flight Attendant managers. Sadly, Rick would probably get axed for showing it when they didnt pay the royalties (even only for FC).
