Edited to add, based on ck2003 and some mulling, Carlsbad seems a great alternative to San Diego. Please discuss.

Looking for hotel recommendations for a 6 day trip in late April/early May. I reviewed the various threads and found some useful information, but would like to see if there is any more current opinion.

We will hit the usual places, but will also be traveling inland to see relatives in Corona.

Bottom line: looking for a quality hotel that does well with/for little kids; on the beach good, but not necessary; not playing golf or tennis; will have wheels.

Thanks in advance.

I've never stayed at the Embassy Suites in La jolla/UTC area but if I were visiting (I'm a local) and want a central SD location I would stay here. I like the idea of 2 room suites, free breakfast, and location across from the mall (additional food places) and near the freeway.

We've only done 1 night stays (for staycations and mattress runs) at the Hyatts in SD and they've also been good.

If you want to stay in North County I know that they are opening up a Hyatt Summerfield suites in Carlsbad. It's close to Legoland, Carlsbad outlets, Encinitas, and great North County beaches. It might also bring you closer to Corona.

Embassey Suites is probably as good as it gets with 2 kids in tow, and includes breakfast, has pool, evening snacks, etc.

Corona is a fair drive. About 60 miles along the I 15 from the intersection of the 78, with 18 miles to there from the I-5). Traffic not too bad. The 5 and 78 will be the worse.
