Any clue as to what the new conversion rate will be. I have enough points to convert to 16.5 RR credits and am inclined to convert those prior to the switck 3/1. Is this a good idea?

Rough guess would be that instead of each WN credit you will get 1,200 WN points.

I just cashed in 6000 points, which topped me up to 16, enough for a free flight. I'm waiting for WN to e-mail me saying I have qualified for a free trip.

I think this is a great idea. In process of converting many points myself. Remember our Choice friends have changed redemption values with little to no warning in the past.

I suggest that this is in the "Snooze/Lose" category if you have any inclination to do it. One reason I say this is that I'll bet Southwest has held meetings with all its "partners" and that they're all still figuring it out ("RR 2.0"), and that ChoicePrivileges - little as they appear to be into this sort of thing - may be the last to do so. Then, further as we have seen, their reaction is likely to be sudden. And further as we have seen, it could be something triggered by our behavior. :(

On the other hand, I don't see any reason for conversion rates from hotel points to RR credits/equivalent points to change radically. Each hotel chain could already set whatever ratio they wanted to 1 RR credit. The extra "granularity" they get with being able to resolve to about 1/1200 of an RR credit (1 RR 1.0 credit = 1200 RR 2.0 points) doesn't change the math on that much.

It's direct earning on hotel stays I'm concerned about. I fear the 600 points per stay is just temporary, until Choice is able to award however many points per stay they wish. (They currently give 1/2 the miles -- 250 vs 500 -- as most of the "bigger" hotel families do, and I don't see why that wouldn't be the case with Southwest too, once they are able to do so. The fact that every hotel chain and every rental car is initially 600 RR 2.0 points "smells" like their systems are for the time being still going to work in 0.5 credit units "behind the scenes".)

But, as I've said elsewhere, it's like Forrest Gump's mama said: "...like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." Because when you want to redeem, the real value is vis a vis whatever that moment's revenue ticket costs. However fungible, a slippery value.

By the way, and I can't help it, have people who still care and are watching this unfold looked at Southwest's award ticket availability in March - spring break season - as compared to February? (Virtually wide open weekdays from March 1 forward.) If FlyerTalkers have > 1,000 posts, all told, trying to figure out "RR 2.0" - let alone get motivated by it - think of what the effect must be on the masses. As few have noted, "Scorrrrre!" for Southwest, as far as freebie utilization in "RR 2.0". I wonder if auditors will let them use a new formula for that end of things. :)!
