I am looking at going from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid on the trenhotel then flying out 4 hours later. How risky is this? Does this route usually run on time?

Which station does it end at in Madrid: Atocha or Chamartin? From anecdotal experience of others, Trenhotels usually run on time.
Factor in when you need to arrive at the airport + 1 hr transfer time between either train station and MAD.

We used the Trenhotel BCN-PAR last July and both ways the timing was spot on, within single figures minute wise.

Planing to do the same thing (SCQ-MAD by trainhotel) in July, I assume it is more reliable than Iberia with the pilot strikes. How did it work out for you upstate?

This is interesting - does anyone know if the trenhotel runs from Granada to MAD?

Granada - Madrid is only 4+ hours or so. Sleeper cars on such a route wouldn't make a lot of sense.
