US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-2005 America West merger) - PHL International Terminal 1 to be Terminal A?

I noticed that the roadway work for the Arrivals/Baggage Claim through the new Intl. terminal is almost complete (Departures already drive past the yet-to-be open check-in curb). So, it looks like December could be reality.

I also noticed that the jetways have gate numbers on them, and they all begin with "A". My hunch is that when it does open, the old terminal A and new Intl. terminal will become one big terminal A. It makes sense. It would have been silly to have a Terminal 1, followed by A-F.

On a related note, did you happen to notice how poorly the new terminal is designed from a terrorism prevention perspective?

The terminal is a huge, three story glass pavilion with a roadway running under it.

Very bad.

Although it looks good, I doubt if someday an architecture student will hail the new international terminal as a classic example of an antebellum public building.

Like the control tower at DCA with its base at the curbside, or in BOS where you can drive under it. Yeah we didn't used to have to design with these things in mind.

Read a great article a while back about a building in NYC that had a structural support piller at the curbside. They had built a plywood box around it and underneath were busy armoring the h*** out of the pillar.

This map at the Philadelphia Airport website shows the new terminal as A-West and the current as A-East. This makes a lot more sense than calling it Terminal 1-A-B-C-D-E-F.
