US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - What to do if US pulls back the restrictions?

Although I'm not a US elite member, what I think would be the best for you guys to do if they eventually do pull back the DMP restriction is say "f**k you and everybody that looks like you". If your partner in life says "Honey, I only loved you for your money", would you go back to s/he if they then said they loved you for you a week later? Heck no! Switch programs, stay at your new one, let US face the consequences for trying to do this. It will give the other airlines an example of why they shouldn't strangle elites.

The only difference with the story is that all airlines say "honey, I only love you for your money".
Most of us cannot be single (because of business travel requirements) and are polygamists. Because of much less travel, I will have only 1 wife in 2003 (elite level with one airline). I used to have a harem.

I think a lot of people who don't live in the hubs will migrate elsewhere. In my case, they had already been cutting back the routes I fly to the point where it was becoming inconvenient. This event came at the moment I was rethinking things, so the decision, regardless of what they do, has been easy. That does not mitigate the hard feelings, though. What they did, how they did it, and the things they are trying to do to the program, are overkill. The writing is on the wall. As Joe Sharkey, in his weekly column in the New York Times, paraphrased one industry observer
,"the companies think this is like the military, and spend a lot of time issuing orders. They have to understand it's not Parris Island". Regardless of outcome, it will cost them on the margin.
I'm willing to stay loyal for a complete
pull back and chalk it up to silly mgt types
losing their minds.
However, if the pull back is half baked
and transparent in its attempt. well then,
they deserve what the market will do to them.
I wish they would get to the business of saving the airline instead of these marginal efforts.
I'm torn here, as I've been flying US for a long time and have been a pretty happy customer. Half of me is insulted by the whole idea behind the tier miles proposal and tempted to head off elsewhere on principle. The other half is sorely tempted to wreak revenge by going on a CP run this fall on the cheap fares and tier mile bonuses out there and then buy nothing but discount tickets and use miles for the others for awhile. I'm going to see what happens then make as rational a decision as I can once the dust settles. Part of the decision involves deciding whether this carrier is viable; this kind of stupidity really makes me wonder whether they've got a future.

I agree, let 'em go. I used to think they would make it through the bankruptcy. Now, I'm hoping they continue on this silly path they've paved for themselves so that the "real" airlines have an example to stay away from. I guess that makes me one of those "unloyal" elite members.

I'll see what happens, I'm already renewed as a CP. I am going to test the water over the next few months and evaluate my options. I have enjoyed several years of comfort and familiarity with this airline in spite of the pull back from BWI, however, this latest outrage and published contempt for FF has pushed me too far. If things change back I may, and probably will resume some level of flying with U. In the meantime I will utilize my remaining club membership to carry-out drinks and snacks for my Airtran flights.

It doesn't matter to me at this point if they do rescind the changes.
I fly out of BWI. It is now just as easy, or as much of a hassle, depending on your POV, to fly CO, AA, etc., as it is to fly US Airways.
I stayed with US because of DM and a sense of loyalty that I had to the airline from growing up with Allegheny, then US Air, and Piedmont, and the airline we know today. I flew the on connections when it was simpler to fly other airlines nonstop....even BEFORE I was elite. It would have been just as simple to earn elite status with another carrier.
My plan was to stay with them even on their trimmed schedule. Since I do business in CLT and PIT on occasion, I am kind of stuck for those eight-or-so trips per year.
But.....since I'm NOT the type of passenger that Ben Baldanza wants....my money for every other dime I spent goes elsewhere. Regardless of what they change.
