The Teatro Colón website seems to indicate that tours of the building are possible, but I can't find any more information. Does anyone know if these are possible and where can you get more information?

I'm not sure what the situation is since the re-opening. I did the tour back in 2004 and can highly recommend it - the workshops and rehearsal rooms etc extend under a huge part of the grassy area between the theatre and Tribunales (the court house opposite). On the official website (apparently being re-developed) it says that they will soon be starting guided tours for the public, not that they are operating them at the moment.

A quick check of the official website shows a legend that says that Tours open to the General Public will be back shortly... this would seem to indicate that currently these are not possible.

Sorry I dont have better news.... until when are you staying...?

Will be in Bs As the last week of this month. I'll keep my eye on the website. My spanish isn't very good, so when I read el Teatro abiertas al público en general, online I assumed the tours were already going on.

Would appreciate it if anyone on the ground could post if they hear anything more.

Any update if tours will be available this week? Will also be visiting this week and was disappointed that the theater was closed for renovations on my previous two visits. Thanks!

I don't know, if you can't get a definitive answer online just take a cab to the theater one morning and walk to the ticket kiosk. That's where I bought my tour tickets 5 or 6 years ago, it used to be on Tucaman (aka south) side of the theater.

Ive just checked back to the website and it appears that these guided tours are still not available. The website announces that a new website is to be launched shortly and the only mention to the guided tours is that is will be again offered soon....

Sorry I dont have more details.

I walked by Teatro Colon while in BA last week and inquired about tours. The person inside said that tours would be resumed in mid-February.

Good to know - thanks for the link. I did this tour back in 2004/5 and it is well worth it.

20 pesos for Argentines and three times that price at US$15 for foreigners...How long until the first "not fair" post that generated so much discussion in the residents' air fares thread? :D

I took the tour the last Sunday in March. Tours are available seven days a week and provided in English as well as Spanish. The building is beautiful. However, the lights were off in the theater due to the lighting people preparing for the first show (we were warned in advance) and the backstage portion of the tour was not available as they were still moving things over from the temporary location. But I'm still glad we did the tour.

The Colon Theater is in the middle of a couple of nasty labour disputes between a couple of the Unions and the City of Buenos Aires... all this means that all services, funtions and perhaps the Season is kind of up in the air... I would advise folks to make plans but take these with a pinch of salt until these disputes are settled.

No idea how much longer this all will go on, but I will keep you posted.

As of today, the website seems to show that visits are up and running with business as usual....

One post said it only costs 20 pesos for Argentinos. Do they really check your passport?

If there is a price difference, its probably a residence thing.... although I havent done a tour in more than 10 years so I cant say for sure.

Perhaps someone that has visited recently can report on this...?

No passport checking, but the clerk automatically charged us 60 pesos each. The tours are in English or Spanish. If you ask for the English tour, the clerk assumes that you are a tourist.

When we first entered the theater, an Argentine lady tried to sell us her 20 peso tickets because her friends weren't coming. I presume if we had bought her tickets, no one would have asked us to pay 40 pesos more each.
