South America - Bogota hotel recommendations

I'll be flying into BOG on Jan. 25 to start a 17-day trip. I'll need to book a hotel in advance since I'll be arriving in the evening. I'd like a place that's plugged into the independent travel scene but is not a party place. A clean single room is sufficient, if necessary I can share facilities. Location wise, I want to be in a fairly central and safe place during the day and not too dicey at night.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'll also be going to Cartagena, so suggestions there are welcome as well.
