Los Angeles - Burbank: Amtrak stop, airport, shuttle

Taking the Amtrak Coast Starlight from Portland to L.A. in March. One option is to get off at the end of the line, Union Station in L.A., spending the night downtown (probably rely on Priceline or Hotwire), and then renting a car, probably at Union Station, and continuing on (personal business south of L.A.). I did consider getting off the train at the stop at the Burbank Airport (used to liv in the San Fernando Valley) and staying the night near the airport, but I'd have to rely on the shuttle from the uncovered Amtrak/Metrolink stop to get me to the airport, from where I could take a cab to a hotel (assuming the hotel doesn't have a free shuttle).

However, the train isn't even scheduled to get to the Burbank Airport stop until 10:15 p.m., after most flights for the day have left, so wondering how certain I'd be that there'd be a shuttle. It's not a long walk to the airport terminal, but not somethng I'd want to do with luggage and late at night.
Anyone have experience with this? I realize it's a rather esoteric question.

If push comes to shove, I'll continue to Union Statin, sincce I'm pretty sure there'll be taxis there when the train arrives (scheduled 11 p.m.; 45 mins. from Burbank seems slow, but I guess the train slows down in town). Thanks!

Quite a few arrivals at BUR around 10 pm so unless your train gets delayed it should not be a problem. It's a 5 min easy walk to terminals even with luggage (unless you have a couple large suitcases). Without rental car I would book Marriott BUR - I am pretty sure they can pick you up at the train station and the worst case scenario is a perfectly manageable 10 min walk.

The train station is literally across the street from the back end of the car rental lot, so if you rented a car at BUR, you might have had to walk almost as far. It sure doesn't seem like a shuttle is really that necessary, even with baggage.

Thanks. I probably would not rent a car until the following morning, and would be concerned about shuttles, etc. only because of the late hour. At this point I am leaning towards staying on the train until Union Station, spending thenight and then renting a car at Union Station the next morning, since rental car prices at BUR are $30+ higher (even with an AARP or Costco discount code), but glad to see that if I opt for the Burbank option it wouldn't be difficult. I did look at the Marriott at Burbank Airport and the rates are not bad.

There is Courtyard Marriott nearby, it has local Hertz inside which is normally cheaper than the airport Hertz.
