South - Hotels near ATL? Is it convenient to Downtown/Tourist Attractions?

Hello Everyone!

My partner and I are driving down to Atlanta for President's Day weekend for two nights. We've never been to Atlanta before so we're looking to explore the city.

I'm just wondering if we stayed at one of the hotels close to ATL...is that relatively convenient for us to get around? I'm trying to keep our hotel to around $100 or so. We'll have a car so most likely we'll just drive around since, from my research, Atlanta has limited public transport.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, public transport is limited here compared to other cities of our size and the area around ATL is not really a good area for tourists, to put it mildly. It's far from the nicest part of town.

I wish I could suggest hotels but I live here so I can't really say I stay anywhere other than my own home. We do use a hotel for corporate visitors and it's usually about $130 per night.

I would say look around midtown but I don't know that you would get anything good at that low of a rate considering how good the location is but it is winter so maybe there are some good deals. Look at Buckhead as well. Also, the area around Perimeter Mall may be a good idea. It's nice, safe, clean and there is a train station there that you can walk to or drive and drop off your car and take the trains into the city. We have large parking lots and garages at most of the train stations around here.

What attractions are you planning to visit? If you are willing to take buses, you can get all over the place but a car is much faster. We are a driving city so there is parking everywhere.
