I apologize for being out of the country 3 of the last 4 weeks and unable to keep up with the multitude of FT posts in the US forum. I cannot help but think of the article in the USAToday about the hundreds of people that took advantage of the broken ATM machine due to the nearby WTC collapse to make thousands of dollars worth of withdrawals, running their account into the negative. The credit union manager was aware of the broken ATMs, but kept the machines open due to the needs of victims of 9/11. I feel some members of this board would react the same way, given the chance. My post was to address what I think are valid, yet unintentional bonuses. After review of other posts, I don't think I've stated anymore than what was stated earler, but to appease some FT members that may think I may have spoiled the pool party, I have removed my original post information.
Regards,
Outoftown

Outoftown- Yes it's in the spirit of FT to share and 9 out of 10 times we're all appreciative of sharing because it benefits us all. However, if you look at some other recent threads concerning the recent promos, there is a sense in the US boards to not share the specific details as you've done here.
Suffice it to say that, perhaps, all of us here are very happy with the bonus situation right now. Our concern is that too much detail might make a good thing go away. As you note, you're risking loss by sharing this info. Perhaps it's risking not only what's in your account, but changes to a system that should be issuing the Get Out More bonuses for three more months!
In the spirit of Beckles Rules 1 and 2 (details can be found in those other threads about this bonus), would you kindly delete the majority of your post? Many of us would appreciate it.
Perhaps someone more savvy than I am can insert links to the appropriate threads concerning the Get Out More bonus.
Thanks.

outoftown ~ Unless you're trying to point out something to US Airways that they most likely did not intend to do and and want them to fix it (which they could do retroactively even I'm sure), I'm not sure why you'd want to post that much detail to a public board that we know US reads ...

Jeez, outoftown. Have you EVER been to this board before? With 400-something odd posts, I would think you almost posted this on purpose to piss off the rest of us who would like to share this info, but a bit more subtly. i.e. - delete the details from your post, please.
Thanks.

Has anyone had the GET OUT MORE PREFERRED MILES posted 4 times (vs. 3 times)? Just curious as there seem to be 4 different codes...

Also, I'd suggest that once outoftown deletes his message, all the replies encouraging him to do so are deleted as well. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean that I don't have reason to be.
For those new to FT, click the button with a pencil located at the top of your post next to the right of your name and to the right of the "posted 08-xx-2002 xx:xxAM". Simply delete your original text and place a nice message like "I LUV US!".
Thanks. We all appreciate it!

While we all wait for Outoftown to get back in town, I just sent him/her an email with a request: Delete.
A few more reminders couldn't hurt...

Dude,
I think the ATM situation and US giving extra bonus miles are HARDLY the same situation. Give me a break.....you are telling us that because we are getting these bonus miles (and don't want to ruin a good thing for everybody on this board) that we would steal money from a bank.
I hope your response was simply done in haste. Those are some pretty low things to say about people.

Y'know, if you didn't have the opportunity to check out the prior discussions, that's fine. No harm, no foul, no explanation needed. I think we were simply pointing out an issue that was a concern to us and I thank you for appreciating our concern and deleting your post. I don't think anyone said that what you were addressing was not valid. We just asked for you to be more subtle.
However, I'm having a hard time understanding your apparent hostility towards our request. I don't equate the miles and the ATM at all. It seems as though you don't consider it a moral dilemma either, considering that you registered for many of the same bonuses that I did.
We're all good people here in the US board, including you and me. Right? So no need for anyone to start a pissing match.
Thanks!

Right on, syzygy8.
I can't believe I myself didn't point out the fact that Outoftown also signed up for ALL of the bonuses himself.
Was it Catholic guilt, perhaps?

I think this was a pretty harsh post which may have led to some defensiveness.
In what format can the information be shared without crossing the line? I find the information useful and beneficial...is there a more tactful approach?

dingo,
Believe me, I appreciate the usefulness of the info on the board.
It was the way he posted the information, not the information itself, that led to my (and others') disapproval. He could have said what he said MUCH more subtly, without giving a full printout of the mileage. I almost got the feeling he was trying to sabotage things with the way he said, "Yeah, I know this is stupid of me, but heck, I'll do it anyway!"
Sure, it's good to know he got some bonus miles, and which codes he used to get them. I think we all appreciate that. But as Beckles pointed out earlier on the thread, posting that kind of specific detail isn't going to help anyone do anything except having US correct it.
The beauty of this board is sharing information in such a way so that everybody benefits. US has been extremely generous this summer. We should hail them! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Anyway, if Outoftown was offended by my comments. I do sincerely apologize. I, too may have responded in haste.

I guess I can see that and understand.

Hmmm. It depends on what information is being shared, I guess. I think we've determined that there is enough information in some of these threads to allow anyone who wants to to make out very well by registering for all the bonuses that are listed. So that's useful, beneficial and already in existence.
I think the problem stems from asking specific questions of the results of the bonuses. We all know that many of us were targeted for one of these codes, but not all. Meaning if we start getting more miles than expected, we just need to look at it as simply a bonus and be happy with that and not question the outcome.
I, for instance, have flown 8 segments over the past couple weeks, and another 4 to come this weekend. What I received from my first 4 segments is different from what I got from my second 4. Granted, I'd love to know why and see if anyone else had the same quirk. But when it all comes down to it, I can live without knowing and be happy with what I've got.
After all, I'd easily say this is perhaps the most fruitful time ever for Flyertalkers who frequent US Airways. I've found that we look at gift horses in the mouth here. And that's okay, except when that horse is Secretariat, like it is now!

I love how US gives you Preferred bonus miles based on the 500 mile minimum, rather than based on actual miles of the flight like CO does. This is one reason I switched from CO to US.
