US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - preferred bonus and threshold question

with these preferred bonus promotions, i ran into a question i hope anyone can answer:

I had called DM who confirmed that the miles from the american express tier bonus (4/8/12 segments) can apply towards preffered status, but do not apply towards the 10,000 mile threshold at which point a silver preferred would get 4 NAUs. only actual flown miles go towards the threshold. i'm sure many of you already know this info.

2 questions:

1) regarding the threshold, would a 200 mile segment count as actually 200 miles towards the threshold, or would the 500-mile-minimum rule apply and count as 500 miles towards the threshold?

2) suppose i had 7000 actual miles towards the threshold but had 45,0000 preferred miles. (this scenario is possible by making many short segments but benefitting from all the am ex tier bonuses). now let's say i fly a one way segment of 6000 miles. this would put me over the 10,000 threshold to get 4 NAUs, but it would also get me to Gold. my question is whether I would get both the NAUs and gold status, or whether DM grant me gold status and not give me the NAUs.

1. You get the 500-minimum toward your threshold upgrades.

2. I'm not totally sure because it's rare that the exact same flight will cross the line for both threshold upgrades and Gold Preferred status, but I'm pretty sure that you'll get upgraded to Gold Preferred first and your threshold counter will reset and you won't get the four NAU's. Don't worry about that, though, because your Gold welcome kit will contain several more NAU's (I think it is 8 NAU's and 2 systemwides, but I'm not completely sure...I'll find out soon and report back). Again, this is a rare (and unlikely) and scenario, so you might luck out and get both.

I would think you would get the NAUs before the counter reset on hitting gold, but I would not count on it, last year I missed a set of NAUs when my VISA 10K miles pushed me over to gold
