AA is offering a fare sale. Right now, DFW-TYR, a 40 minute flight, is $29 each way. 500 minimum miles for elites (plus the 100% RDM bonus, so 1000 each way), and an elite qualifying segment.

Plus, it's on Eagle, so if you're PLT or EXP, a free drink each way and quick turnarounds.

Travel now through the end of April, book by Jan 3rd.

Just a note: $72 a/i r/t with taxes and fees. So 7.2 cents/EQM and 3.6 cents/RDM for PLT and EXP members (not great, but okay), and quick and easy segments (since I'm going to hit EXP on segments this year, it's a great way to accelerate that).

With three back to back round trips, that's 3000 EQM (6000RDM if already PLT/EXP) and 6 segments for 8 hours of hopping back and forth.

So, 50 of these and you are EXP for $3600 a/i?

Yep. And with 3 flights/day showing up on this sale, you could theoretically be EXP on Jan 17 or before.

yes and no...it is all dependent upon what status one presently held with AA. If not in a positon to get the 500 minimum mile, then it becomes far more costly (without status, you would only get segment credit plus the ~110 miles each way).

But yes, I initially pondered the same question as it has been a few years since I had status with AA and was contemplating a segment run or two early in the year so that I could then build upon sales like that one.

If you get 500EQM per leg, so 1000 EQM and 2000 RDM per return trip, wouldn't it take 100 trips to get to EXP doing this route only?

I think they are saying you get 2 segments per trip. 100 segments equals ex. plat.

For miles, yes, but you get EXP on 100 segments - 50 r/t.

Yep, segments slipped my mind, you're correct. I think you'd have 100k RDM if you did this all the way to EXP so a return in J US-Europe? Somebody must be tempted by this for a good chunk of their (re)qualification I guess

WN is offering a 19+ LAX-LAS fare as well. Interesting to see the bloodbath in this market!

I just booked 9 round trips. 3 each of the first saturdays in feb/mar/apr. That'll put me 18 segments ahead of where I'd be otherwise. I've already got 6 segments booked for work in January (which can be 8 with same day standby, as I can easily make AUS-ORD into AUS-DFW-ORD), so I've essentially got 26 segments booked and will likely have at least 4/week for the first quarter for work, if not more.

You can do SAN-LAX-LAS R/T for $140 and double everything as these than double the cost.

Wow. Haven't seen that kind of pricing since 2002-2003 or so.
