I'm a university student, heading back after winter break. My dorm won't open until 8 am, Sunday Jan. 2, but my flight gets in around 10:30 Saturday night and I'm too cheap to pay for a hotel.

My plan is to stay behind security for the night then get my checked luggage in the morning. I'm coming in on Alaska Airlines, so will the baggage service office be open in the morning so I can claim my bag? Has anyone done something similar to this before? I just don't want my bag to be sent to Scottsboro.

Thanks!

As the crusty vets on these boards might remind you, Google can be your friend, but, remembering my student days, I'll offer you these Cliff's Notes:

As another poor student, I will overnight in SEA 2 times in the near future. Please post after you have experienced it.

Just as a point of reference (in cause either of you decides on getting a room after all), 3* Priceline hotels in the airport zone usually be obtained for about $49.50 ($40 + local tax+ PL service charge).

I spent a night at SEA two years ago. I was on United. I tried to stay airside, but they kicked me out at 1AM or whenever they closed. (I expect I could have hidden in one of the closed restaurants, but that seemed unnecessary.) So I spent the rest of the night landside. There must have been at least 30 people doing the same thing! It was totally safe -- the only issue was the blaring announcements every 10-15 mins.

This was closer to four or five years ago, but I slept in the corner of the N satellite during a several-hour UA layover. No problems; people were nearby all night. I've been at SEA during all hours and never recall the airport actually closing.
