I've never done this but you should be able to accomplish this by train.

Take Amtrak "Hiawatha" route from the "Milwaukee Airport Rail Station (MKA)" to Chicago Union Station (about an hour and a half, ~$25). Then take the L, Blue Line picks up about 3 blocks from Union Station and goes directly to O'Hare (about 45 minutes, whatever the standard fare is).

Edit: Check out the bottom of this page from the Wisconsin DOT, that describes exactly what you want to do: http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/rail/mars.htm

I've done the bus route many times, link below has schedule/fare info. Usually very prompt, but at times traffic can be problematic.

Coach USA (http://www.coachusa.com/wisconsincoach/ss.details.asp?action=Lookup&c1=Milwaukee&s1=WI&c2=Chicago+O'Hare+Airport&s2=IL&resultId=16339&order=&dayFilter=&scheduleChoice=&sitePageName=&cbid=342903557333)

Yup its about 2.5hours by Amtrack, Mitchell does free shuttle from Rail to Terminal and the Super Saver Parking. The bus might be quicker but im not sure if it does go to ORD, I know the trip is fairly short I can drive it in about 45min wrecklessly!

Should move this to midwest forum might get better responce.

I still remember with horror my trip to Chicago where I chose to fly into Milwaukee because the fare was cheaper. Had to change at ORD both ways.

I rented a car in Milwaukee and drove to Chicago. That was fine and took around an hour.

But, the return.

Stuck in traffic on the Edens and the Toll Road for hours (and it wasn't rush hour). Missed the flight--which was canceled anyhow due to storms. AA put the passengers into a bus to take us to ORD. Trip back took about three hours. Finally got the flight I would have connected with originally.

Haven't been back to Mitchell field since.

If the idea here is saving a few bucks--spend the money. @:-)

Great news. Megabus.com does that route. They are nice buses with Wifi. They are running a free ticket promo right now too. Use promo code WOW200K

I flew into ORD and out of MKE this month and used Amtrak to get from Chicago to Mitchell. It worked seamlessly minus having to wait in the 16 degree weather at the MKA Station for the shuttle.

Not true...MKE-Chicago is 1:15, tops. You also might be able to change at Glenview, IL for a metra train to O'Hare Transfer, where there's a free shuttle bus to the airport. Since not that many trains stop there, tho, it might not be any faster than the blue line from downtown even tho it's more direct

By far the best way to do this is via the Coach USA bus. This goes directly from Mitchell airport in Milwaukee to O'Hare. Airport to airport with no traffic is approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes. There are numerous buses each way daily and it is a very well run operation. To take Amtrak you would have to go into the city of Chicago and then get to the airport. This literally takes twice the amount of time as taking the bus door to door.

Agree with GB re: Coach USA bus, I took it in reverse (ORD-MKE) earlier this month (Dec 4th) due to the cancellation of my United Express flight (weather related). It worked out fine for me since I was staying near Gen Mitchell Airport. It's normally scheduled for 1:20, but due to the weather it took us 1:40, there were also 2 schedule stops in Kenosha & Racine to offload a couple of people.

Fortunately I was still credited with 500 EQMs (OnePass) for the cancelled flight.

Did you have to request credit?

I got bussed to ORD last friday due to a cancelation and it created some problems, as it didn't unlock my return ticket so somone had to fiddle with that when I tried to return. I got to ORD about same time as flying maybe a little faster but you still had to clear security which is more of a pain then at MKE. This was for a UA flight.

Having done both my recommendation is to be mindful of your flight time, delayed flights have stranded me at ORD for the night on more than one occasion.
