Since they're already rumored to be talking to Continental let's start from there.
You have Continental (takes care of Hawaii and some South America)
Bring in Alaska to help out with the west coast. Add Virgin since they already code share with Continental. Might as well throw in Virgin Blue to help out with domestic Australia. And how about Singapore Airlines to finish it off. They can dump * to join us, since they already have an equity stake in Virgin. Maybe bring in Emirates to take care of the Middle East. In fact, why not SWISS since BA won't let them into ONEWORLD.
So that gives us Continental, US Airways, and Alaska for domestic, Pacific Islands and some South America. Virgin and Swiss for Europe and parts of Africa. Singapore for Asia and Australia. Emirates for Middle East. And Virgin Blue for domestic Australia.
It's just a dream, but wouldn't it be nice!

Yeah, if you're willing to pay double miles for a seat http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Great dream though! However, instead of CO, I would prefer to have HP (if they can lower their cost structure) and AQ or HA for HI. US has plans to expand to South and Central America anyway.

The trick to getting OnePass seats to Hawaii on CO is that you have to be an elite member. I called a couple months ago to make reservations and the agent asked for my account number and noticed that I was a couple thousand miles away from Silver Elite status. She told me that they only alot a couple seats for non-elite members per flight, but there were several still open on all flights (AT CHRISTMAS, NO LESS!) to and from Hawaii for elite members. She told me to call back after I earned elite status and I should have no problem. So, I did and was able to get two seats at the standard 35K mileage or FC at 60K, traveling Christmas Eve and returning on New Years Eve! So, I guess if you're earning for Hawaii on CO, you need to go the distance and earn elite status!

It is difficult, but not impossible for non-elites to get BF standard (60k) award seats to HNL. Here are some useful (but not perfect) tips on how to find available seats:
Lets see what i understand under s prefect alliance for US:
US: Philly, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, +Boston. +Washimngton DC, +New York La Guardia
NW http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gifetroid, Memphis - (with expended operations) and Minneapolis
Continental: Houston and Newark --> shut down Cleveland in vavour of Detroid and Pittsburg, and Guam
America West - with Phoenix and Las Vegas (take over National to strengthen their position there) --> shut down Columbus in favour of Pittsburgh and Detroid
Hawaiian - to take over all Hawaiian services
Alaska - Seattle (expended operations there and NW expendad operations to Asia) and Portland
+ new: Air California - or whatever it will be called - maybe operate under the America West name: to operate shuttle routes within California
international:
Europe:
KLM, Swiss, Volare Italy, Air Europe Spain, Aer Lingus, Malev, THY or a new Olympic
Middle East:
Royal Jordanian, and either Emirates (preferd option) or Gulf Air - otherwise Qatar Airways
Asia:
Malaysia ("Truly Asia"), Garuda, Pal, Bankok Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Air Macao, EVA Air, JAL, Air China and Hainan
South America:
COPA, Air Jamaica, Avianca, Lan Group, TAM Group
Africa: Royal Air Marocco, Air Namibia and SAA and Kenya Airways
GUS: Aerofkot, Uzbekistan Airways
Australia: propabblly the only blanc shet - but maybe quantas(and air new zealand) could be lured away from One World
thats it for the moment

I wish they'd just shut up and join oneworld. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Think about it from the east coast USA:
East coast USA, fly US.
Transcon: AA or US
Europe: US, BA, or AA
S. America: AA
Asia: CX
Africa/India: BA

I'm with geo on this. Going with an real alliance such as OneWorld (or even Star) is a far better solution rather than trying to cobble something together with CO and/or NW.
If the rumored alliance with CO goes through, you can kiss goodbye upgrades to Europe. CO flyers will gladly burn the miles to get upgraded because of problems like these (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum20/HTML/005478.html) on CO.
If you are going to the Far East, OW is much better too. OW affiliates get easier access to QF award flights further in advance than US flyers currently do. Also, flying F on CX is a GREAT way to burn miles.
One of AA's vice-presidents was recently quoted as saying that US would be more than welcome in the OW alliance. Of course, he could have just been messing with the minds of those at CO and US. Who knows?
