US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - My First Voucher -- What Can I Expect?

As compensation for agreeing to be bumped from a flight leaving for Aruba, US Airways gave me a "transportation voucher" for a free future RT flight to the Caribbean. It is valid for 12 months in Coach.
Will I be able to use this voucher for any coach seat that is open at the time I make my reservation? Or do they set a limit on the number of seats made available to voucher users on each flight (like they do for FF miles users)?
Any responses are appreciated. Thanks.

First of all welcome to FT travelermike. This voucher that you received for a free r/t will come out of the same inventory as if you were to redeem 25k for a domestic coach award.

The seat for the voucher is booked in Z class, and it is not upgradeable. Of course, you may get lucky and they give you an operational upgrade - but not likely.

As chexfan pointed out, it's treated like a 25K award, which means blackout dates and capacity controls apply (unless you're Chairman's Preferred). That's my biggest beef with those vouchers - trying to use them on a good destination at a good time of the year may be difficult.

I would have asked for credit vouchers or even $$$, depending on how desparate they were for your seats. Since you ultimately could have decided to board, they still have the upper hand as to what to give you.

Their contract of carriage section on voluntary denied boarding describes the leeway they have in that type of situation.

travelermike! Welcome to FlyerTalk!

With a little advance planning, you should be able to get a seat without too much trouble. Using the voucher for last minute travel might be tough. When you're ready to fly, call the international award reservations number and have a little flexability on your travel dates and you should be OK. You probably won't be able to book a ticket to Bermuda for Christmas but a quick trip to the Bahamas is always fun in Feb. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
