Unless US merged with CO, or were bought outright by CO, Dividend Miles won't be going anywhere. This is a codeshare agreement... nothing more.

Not bloody likely. For example, NW and CO have a codeshare agreement, and they each maintain their own FF programs. Remember, a code-share alliance is not a merger of two airlines, just a marketing cooperation. Well, a little more than that, but each airline continues to operate on its own.

Playing Devil's Advocate here....

Maybe it would make sense to completly outsource their FF program? Why not?

OnePass was a standalone operation between Eastern and CO back before EA failed. AC has talked about spinning of Aeroplan in an IPO, and offering it as a 3rd party FF program for other carriers. I for one am surprised that there hasn't been some kind of consolidation of FF programs with the rise of the alliances....

Qualiflyer is an outsourced FF plan for TAP, the old Sabena and the old Swiss Air. Therefore went SB went under, those SB frequent flyers didn't lose their miles.
