What can I expect if I order a kosher meal on CX business class from JFK to HKG?

FF Dec 26, 10, 12:48 pm What can I expect if I order a kosher meal on CX business class from JFK to HKG? Probably not much, I'm afraid! CX's policy on kosher meals it to "standardise" them across the fleet and that means it'll be on a plastic setup. On the LHR-HKG route one gets pretty good Hermolis meals - but it's always Roast Chicken (or so it seems). This picture (www.flickr.com/photos/18211470@N04/2054516889) is from a MEL-HKG in First class a couple of years ago - not very impressive! You'll probably do better than that (I hope) but probably best to take a few sandwiches as well - just in case! ual902 Feb 2, 11, 7:39 pm I flew CX J JFK-HKG in 2008 the kosher meals was regular Coach wrapped up meal. Besides from LH and LX, what are the carriers that honor business and first class kosher meals? FF Feb 3, 11, 11:39 am Besides from LH and LX, what are the carriers that honor business and first class kosher meals? Well, BA - and AA have Hermolis out of London (see my flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/18211470@N04/)) But it's not just the airline, but the route as well. BA KSMLSs ex TLV are rubbish - and the same from all US outstations. BA ex JNB used to be great in J/F but quite often one ends up with a Y class meal. The same thing happened to me in F ex CPT a few months ago. BA J/F from SIN/BKK/HKG will be Hermolis - but ex SYD one gets the Y class meal whichever class one is in. And CX ex MEL (when they had F class) was a disgrace - see the pix. Generally, CX J/F is very much under par - they insist on only specifying plastic plates etc.... the reason being (somewhat bizzarely) that they want the same (sub-par) product across their global fleet. Gave up on UA a few years ago after they switched (for ex LHR) from Hermolis to a supplier in Paris - and then they served me a defrosted meal that was a week past its sell by date, and when I said I wouldn't eat it they refused to log it as a problem - just that I didn't want to eat the meal. 2035 Feb 3, 11, 12:09 pm Besides from LH and LX, what are the carriers that honor business and first class kosher meals? Qantas from Australia (Sydney) did an excellent business class meal, on real china. Very surprised, as their meals used to be very poor. Also OS from Vienna (and Maldives!) have excellent business class meals, better than LH and LX F class meals IMO. OTOH, even if there are special business class meals it doesn't mean they're better. I travelled recently in F on LH from New York to Frankfurt and the meal was absolutely appalling. It was F class, but frozen and I couldn't touch it. SQ from LHR in F is my best so far.... ual902 Feb 4, 11, 12:53 am Also a warning for JAL NRT-JFK in J, they give you Y class frozen meals something like Borenstein or the old Wilton. I'm pretty much done with Ordering Kosher in J or F unless I see from this Forum that at a certain route with certain Airline they give you better meals on J or F then Ill order Kosher. Ill just order Vegetarian from now on for the rest of the airlines and I'm in the Oneworld Network almost all of my flights damaxer91 Feb 4, 11, 1:21 am So ex-JFK on CX in F gets regular coach KSML? I find that rather surprising.... ual902 Feb 4, 11, 2:01 am So ex-JFK on CX in F gets regular coach KSML? I find that rather surprising.... I don't know about CX F from JFK, but I know from experience CX J from JFK gets KSML frozen Y meals. |
