Okay, so maybe in FC they are, but I just booked a round-trip ticket to Auckland for the America's Cup in Business Class with weekend departures.
Thanks BillMorrow for the tip on checking availability online, worked like a charm!

-Did you try for FC- or just go with the Biz tickets from the start?

I looked for FC tickets of course ... I would have gladly paid an extra 30k for them. The only thing I saw in FC for the dates I was looking (I was looking at the early rounds of the Louis Vuitton cup also) was availability on 10/10 AKL-LAX, so they are out there. If that date would have worked for me, I would have confirmed one way and just waitlisted the other, but I wasn't going to spend 30k to waitlist both ways.

9 months for New Zealand to get ready for Beckles!!!
At least you'll get to see the first week of the two-boat final!

Yup, now I'm just counting on your boys at Oracle Racing (http://www.oracleac.org) to do their job and get to the finals. I have two college classmates who are working for Oracle Racing designing the boat, and one of them managed to get it in her contract that she gets to go to NZ for at least some of the racing.
Technically I am going to the finals of the Louis Vuitton cup, not the Americas Cup, just to be correct ...

To make this trip a total US Airways bonanza, I was just able to use 3 USAirways 50% Hotel certs to get a Regency Club room at the Hyatt Regency Auckland for $170 NZD, which at current rates is about $75 USD ... pretty sweet.

Beckles,
Glad to see someone else is going to the AC. We'll be in NZ 3/14-4/4. This covers the whole AC finals period, but we will probably only be in AKL for 4-5 days (depending on who's racing).
I'm booked at the Hyatt also. I'm paying US$130/night for a 1 bedroom suite. The US Dollar goes a long way in NZ. I just returned from an award stay at the Hilton. It's a very nice hotel in a great location, but their pricing is outrageous for the AC. The Hyatt is a longer walk, but I have a feeling that a lot of the spectator boats will be leaving from the docks at the ferry building which is pretty close to the Hyatt.
I'm gonna have to check out using my 50% off coupons too. Those that don't expire before then of course.

Thanks to US for my ample DM account. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Thanks to BillMorrow for the HUGE tip for checking online availability (I did have a thought that maybe QF FFers might have had a different availability- but not in this case). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks to Beckles for the inspiration. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I was able to get two Biz tickets with just a day later on my planned outbound. Of course, being in SEA, I need to find my own way to LAX, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif but I think I can manage that!

When are you going ... for the actual Americas Cup or during the Louis Vuitton Cup or during some other time?

chex - Uh oh....it appears TWO US FT'ers will be in Oz at the same time. Wifey and me are going 11/16-11/27. email me and we'll see if our dates/cities coinside. Since we're starting in MEL, we'll probably be in SYD by the time you get down there. Email me and we'll see if the stars line up right. Ironic, since I missed you at the PHL Flyertalk outing(I didn't make it) in my own hometown.

I got April QF J class tickets in January and haven't been able to change the dates slightly. My flight to SYD was completely full in J class (all 79 seats or so). In the dark of the night, there might have been an empty seat but the center seats were all full. Those the the last seats to go usually.
