US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - LAX overnight stopover when connecting to QF

Using US miles, can you fly to LAX, spend the night and then continue on the QF segment...and similarly on the return? Does it count as a stop-over?

It counts as a stop-over and I believe you are only allowed one. I know when I went PIT-LAX-HNL (split between US and AA) I could only 'stopover' one way, so I had to force an overnight connection to stopover the other.

On my trip in Jan 2003, I go PIT-LAX-SYD with a 3 hour layover in LAX, and then on the way back stop over in LAX for 2 days (work off some jetlag, I hope).

PS -- If your 'stopover' is less than 24 hours, then it's a valid connection. So you could stay overnight as long as your next flight is less than 24 hours away... IMHO

A few things about QF connections at LAX...

All the ex-LAX QF flights leave very late in the evening (4 flights departing 10 pm thru midnight). Getting to LAX on a US flight to connect would/should not be a problem. Unless you have a need or desire to stopover in La-La Land, there's no real need to do so.

The QF flights arriving at LAX tend to come in during the morning so connecting out isn't too bad (it's just a really long day flying from OZ/NZ back to LAX and then on to a, chances are, east coast US destination).

I returned from SYD and arrived late morning/early afternoon). I stayed one night near LAX (slept for about 12 hours) and caught a morning flight back to the east coast. That's fine if you have the time, otherwise pushing on after landing in LAX to your final could be done.
