Mexico - Best way from MEX to Toluca
Dec 17, 10, 9:23 am
I am flying into Mexico City airport (MEX) and need to get to Toluca. Does anyone know the best/fastrest/cheapest way to do so? Taking metro to bus station to then take bus to Toluca seems like a time killer, especially since I land at 9pm.
Are taxis obnoxiously expensive? Is there a direct shuttle or shared service? Gypsy taxis?
Or should I take metro to the end of the line (station?) and pick up a taxi or colectivo there?

There is a Caminante bus that leaves right from the MEX airport to Toluca at 10pm. One way fare is 135 pesos. That would be your best and safest bet if you land on time and can clear immigration & customs in a hurry.
The Metro option you mention involves changing subway lines and riding out to the Observatorio Metro station to the end of line 1 which puts you at the Poniente Bus Terminal. This is the bus station where buses for Toluca depart.

Depending upon the time of day, the trip to Toluca can take anywhere from an hour to two hours. It's not a good or easy connection. The Caminante bus is probably your best option. I'm not certain if there's an airport-to-airport bus but there is one that'll get you to the bus terminal in Toluca from which you can get a taxi. The Metro is not a transit option in this instance, for about 99.9% of travelers. Depending upon your airline at Toluca, some of the budget carriers have shuttle busses from various points in Mexico City that'll take you to the Toluca airport. Check the website for the particular airline you'll be using.
