Washington D.C. (including Baltimore) - Union Station to Hilton Washington

Hi All
I'll be staying at the Hilton Washington (Du Pont Circle) in a couple of weeks for a first time trip (leisure). I'll arrive by train at the Union Station. What would be the best way, and hopefully not too expensive, to get to my hotel? I'll be arriving after 7pm if that changes things...
Thanks in advance!
Get on the red line going toward Shady Grove or Grosvenor, get off at Dupont Circle ten minutes later, take the Q St exit, and walk half a mile north up Connecticut to the hotel. (Alternatively, keep going one stop further and get off at Woodley Park; the walk will be about three quarters of a mile, but it'll be downhill instead of up.)
If that's too much walking for you, just cab it from Union Station. But traffic around 7pm is still going to be pretty heavy, if you're talking weekdays.

looks to me like somebody sold you a bill of goods. no hilton called the washington. no hilton at dupont circle. got a hilton embassy row, take it if that's the one. decent hotel. 2 miles up mass ave from station. the circulator bus goes down k st. leaves a quarter mile walk or so. the subway red line goes from union sta to dupont circle. probably best choice
I assume he means the Washington Hilton and simply transposed. It considers itself as being located in Dupont Circle as per its web site, though I'd quibble some with its sense of geography.
Hilton calls its hotel at 1919 Connecticut Ave, NW the Washington Hilton - same one where Reagan was shot. At most it's a 10-minute walk up Connecticut Ave from the aforementioned Q Street exit of Dupont Circle Metro (Red Line) Station.

Thanks everybody.
How much do you think a cab will cost? also much do you think it will cost if I go the red line route?

$2.20 assuming you don't have a Smartrip card.

And I'd guess the cab as about $10.

Hilton calls its hotel at 1919 Connecticut Ave, NW the Washington Hilton - same one where Reagan was shot. Locals still call it the Hinckley Hilton. Just did the cab ride a few days ago from the hotel to Union Station, it was $9 plus tip. Red Line Metro very convenient alternative unless it's raining.

I lived in the DC area until 2005 and never once heard it called the Hinckley Hilton. Maybe by "locals" the poster meant those who live near the Hilton itself. Red Line is nice, but wouldn't want to carry much baggage, especially for the walk from the Metro station (whether walking from Dupont Circle or Woodley Park). And rush hour trains can be very crowded. OP didn't say what they meant by "not too expensive" so no telling if $10 taxi ride is too much.

I've never heard it called that.
Two little warnings:
1) the escalators at DuPont are notorious for breaking down - and they're some of the longest escalators in the world. Be prepared for a LONG walk from the other side of the metro station if the north escalators/elevators are busted.
2) the walk isn't too bad, but once you pass about S street, the Washington Hilton is up the hill a bit. If your bag is heavy, you might be fighting gravity to an extent.

The 42 bus goes right by the place; get on the 80 at N. Cap
and Mass. and transfer at 11th or at Farragut Square.

Wash Hilton and Top Chef would be very sorry to see this post as the Washington Hilton sponsored last season's Top Chef. Yes, as others mention they do call it the Washington Hilton.
OT but they put on a nice event to celebrate the show sponsorship during the series which some folks were invited too off FB as well as from the industry (party and conference planners, etc)
You want to go where?

I certainly consider the Washington Hilton as being in the Dupont Circle neighborhood (albeit at the edge of it).
