Yes, I'm mad.. but am doing a MR and OSL seems to be the cheapest to get to from Germany!
Which are the most convenient airport hotels at OSL airport? I arrive at 7pm and leave next day at 620am.
I see that free airport shuttles don't really exist in Oslo..
I'm currently booked at the Comfort Runway Hotel for NOK 545 a night. Shuttle is to cost NOK 60.
But I remember that if there is a hotel that is IN the terminal but I forget the name..is it the Clarion or Park Inn ?
Thank you!
God Jul !
You are thinking of the Radisson, which is just across the road from the terminal building.

Ok. I wonder which Scandinavian airport I saw that has a hotel within? The Radisson Blu at Oslo airport is also 2x the price of the Comfort!

Stockholm's ARN has the Radisson hotel within it -- meaning no need to walk outside -- albeit "landside". [I consider CPH's Hilton to be across the street from the airport and not "within it".]
Try using the code "CARLSONF" for the friends & family rate for Radisson hotels, as it may work wonders.
When I have early morning departures from OSL, I end up being agnostic between the non-Radisson OSL-area properties and the Scandic hotel attached to Oslo S train station since the express train works well enough for me when having an interest to go into town (even in circumstances like yours).

Thanks GUWonder, it indeed worked wonders.
I was going to stay at the Comfort Hotel which was 545 NOK. But given the additional 60 NOK fare each way the shuttle bus charges, it worked out to be the same at the Radisson BLU under the Friends/Family rate. So I booked there instead.
My flight next morning is at 620am. The Comfort Hotel offered breakie from 430am. I doubt I'll be getting that at the Radisson. But we'll see.
Thank you!

Glad it worked well for you too.
My cost management strategy for hotel stays in the region are split between using the CARLSONF rate for Radisson hotels and using Choice Hotel points (even as it means buying them) for the Clarion/Quality/Comfort hotel properties.

I'd have to look into that too. As Scandinavia as a whole has a dire lack of *wood, Hyatts, and even IC hotels where I usually stay at.
Thanks again!

Glad it worked out for you. I must admit I am amused by the idea of an MR to OSL!

Mileage runs to/from OSL have been big news before. The OSL-China-OSL SK business class special for under $400 being one of them. :)

The Radisson Blu as mentioned is just across the forecourse of the airport, turning to the right when exiting arrivals (i.e. towards the train station end of arrivals, opposite the domestic part of the terminal).
Just some weeks ago a new Park Inn opened opposite the international end of the terminal (i.e. turning left out of arrivals). The walk is slightly longer (about the same as from security to non-Schengen gates at OSL I guess), but well managable, and rates should be lower. Considering the average stabdard of Park Inns I would expect rooms, service and breakfast be well up to the standard of the "shuttle hotels" near OSL, but the rooms to be smaller than at the Radisson Blu. Haven't tried it yet, but am looking forward to it!
Hi found this thread. We are arriving 9:35 pm n fly out 11:30am next day. Three of us, father and two grown up sons looking for budget sleeping accommodations. Are there transit hotel rooms on site or do we need to go thru immigration, etc?

The hotels are landside -- which means clearing immigration into the Schengen area whether entering at OSL or otherwise. The closest hotel to the terminal area for check-in/security is the Radisson Blu Oslo airport hotel; the next closest is the Park Inn Oslo airport hotel. Both of them are a very short walk, mostly a covered or otherwise protected walk-way so snow/rain won't be a big issue even if pushing a heavy, fully-loaded baggage cart from the terminal to either of these hotels.
Using points, a cash+points stay or a friends and family rate is the key way to really get a very good deal at these two hotels. To get the F&F rate at the Club Carlson properties which I've mentioned, that should be done sooner than later as availability commonly diminishes over time. There is a thread about how to get the F&F deals that is mentioned in the Hotel Deals forum here on FT; and there is a mention of it above that remains accurate.
You may have to consider whether or not you are comfortable sharing a bed -- the Park Inn has some rather large king-bed rooms that could fit a rollaway and is cheaper than the Radisson when it comes to using points or doing a cash+points stay. I don't know how they charge for a rollaway bed at these hotels, but it may be something to consider. [I have seen some people come in with sleeping bags and the hotel staff is not intrusive at either of these properties, but I wouldn't want to do that.]
Norwegian hotels tend to be on the expensive side and not generally provide very good value for money IMO. Getting creative with hotel bookings can save some major money.
I have been staying at the Park Inn at OSL quite a lot this year. Good value with breakfast included, particularly when I've gotten creative with how I book it.

At many European hotels "King" beds are really two beds side by side with a king-size mattress topper fitted over the two mattresses to give the appearance of one large bed. Ask for a twin room and you will get the exact same room, but with the mattress topper removed and the two beds pushed apart by an inch if space permits.

What you mention above happens at a lot of hotels but most in Scandinavia doing anything much like that above just shove them together without a filler. And those with fillers I usually noticed. But at the Park Inn OSL, the room beds didn't seem to be the same and doing that but I will check next time.

There usually is no problem in finding reasonably priced hotel rooms in Norway (NOK 1000 and below) except during major fairs in Trondheim/ Stavanger, and during spring/ early summer in Bergen.
But the on-site (i.e. non-shuttle) hotels at OSL tends to be expensive for Norway. I haven't used the F&F trick at either Radisson, but tend to use corporate rates (either of my (public) employers, or the rates of my trade union. Even so, the Radisson Blu usually is closer to NOK 2000 than 1000/ night.

Compared to what 1000NOK regularly gets for hotel rooms in Norway and what 80% or less of the equivalent amount gets at US/Canadian localities of comparable size, my opinion is that getting great value out of regular rates at hotels in Norway is not easy for most tourists. And when three adults are being booked in a room, the relative values between the markets diverge even further.
At the Norwegian "budget" service end, what you get is greater consistency including with cleanliness of the rooms -- I say that as being a good thing despite the relatively high prices for rooms at hotels, shuttle bus or not. 1000 NOK gets me more around NYC area airports than the same amount around OSL airport -- although Norwegian hotels are more likely to have a free breakfast included as the Park Inn OSL does.
