I am trying to decide how to upgrade a trip and my logical and analytical sides can’t agree. I am traveling with a well behaved 5 yr old who has been in FC before and have had no problems. I definitely want to upgrade the whole trip. I am traveling in 3 weeks to LAX thru PHL on a Friday night and am returning thru PIT on a Monday morning. Both LAX flights are on 767s. One flight has 13 FC seats left and the other has 14 FC seats left. I am Gold and have lots of NAUs, 2 SWU, 2 SWU2s and 1 CS0007. There is a chance that I will go to Europe this summer so I want to save at least one SWU.
I am fighting with myself on how to do it. My thoughts are to use 1 SWU and the CS0007 for half the trip but don't what to do with the other half. My trip options are:
1) 20K award for 5 yr old, 1 CS0007 and 1 SWU for me. The advantage is peace of mind. The disadvantage is the 20K. I have the miles to burn but have my heart set on Swiss Air’s FC to Switzerland this winter. Therefore, I am hoarding miles now. Also, I really hate to use 20K and a SWU or a CS0007 if a flight still has G inventory.
2) Use 6 NAU one way and the CS007 and 1 SWU on the other. This way I am confirmed one way in advance. The return is down to G5 so I would confirm this ASAP with the SWU and the CS0007. The problem is that we may be in coach outbound from PHL.
It looks like G inventory is gone when there are still 7 seats left. Does anyone fly Friday nights to LAX often? Could you confirm in advance or at the gate? I know PHL has a lot of CPs so what looks good 8 days out may look bad 6 days out. Right now the 3 flights to LAX after 3PM on my departure day all show G7 (2 from PIT 1 from PHL). The earlier flight from PHL is 2pm.
