My brother is flying RDU-PIT-SEA RT on US in March (going out) and April (coming back). He is Silver Preferred and would like to use his SWUs to upgrade (he has a V class fare...the kind you can only upgrade the day before). What are the chances for him to get upgraded?

Thanks in advance. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If he has a SW upgrade from last year then he can upgrade anytime in advance even though it is a V fare. If it is a new SW upgrade than he can upgrade one day before the flight. His chances of upgrading one day before the flight depend on what type of plane he is on. If he is on the 321 than he has great chances, but if he is on the 319 then it will be up in the air. If he is on the 319 he might want to get to the airport in time to standby on a flight with a 321.

Depends on what day of the week he's flying, what time, and what equipment.

If it's not the evening flight on small (319/320), he'll probably be okay (this in my experiences as a gold/silver since 9/11). You can also have other factors tossed into the mix (a PIT-SEA/SEA-PIT e-saver could be problematic, for instance).

If he has old SWUs he can use those (as has been mentioned). He can also consider the 20k mile upgrade, which he should be able to do right now (assuming G/I inventory).

Greetings...

Send me an email to Winningflyer@search
king.com with the specific travel dates
and I will check with an industry access
person within the week and let you know
what's the chance of the upgrade. :)

Color me curious, but is this "industry access person" going to know when/if US will release extra G/I inventory on the flights in question? Or how many of the bookings are US1/US2/US3, or at what point the US2/3s might choose to upgrade? Or US4s burning miles?

Unless said person is an inventory management type at US, that is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
