I am looking into purchasing a light weight wheelchair that will be for my grand-mother. The main requirements are that it is strong and light and having breaks on the handles are a big plus. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a wheelchair or perhaps a website to buy from?

This is the type of wheelchair I had in mind - this site is located in NZ while i'm here in the USA. Looking for NZ / Australia or USA websites or stores please.

TIA,
ER

Moving this to our Disability Travel Forum where it's more likely to receive a response.

The link below is just one place to look in the US.

You are most likely looking for a class of wheelchair called a "transport chair". Transport chairs are fairly lightweight, foldable, and not intended for self-propelling (ie, all four wheels are small).

Manufacturers of transport chairs in the US include Invacare, Quickie (Sunrise Medical), Drive Medical and Guardian. Popular online retailers include SpinLife (http://www.spinlife.com/critpath/match.cfm?categoryID=272), Allegro Medical (http://www.allegromedical.com/wheelchairs-c540/transport-specialty-chairs-c3762.html?store=mobility-equipment&storeItemId=item38&sortOrder=4) and Sportaid (http://www.sportaid.com/transport/).
