After delay after delay, the new Commuter Concourse E is finally opening. Here's an excerpt from today's Charlotte Observer article on the opening of Concourse E (funny how Jerry Orr describes the trailers as "squalid" and embarassing) - and an update on the expansion of Concourse D.

Charlotte/Douglas International Airport will open a $34 million small jet concourse Sunday, replacing the set of connected trailers that housed its commuter operations for a year and a half.
Conditions in the trailers were "squalid," Aviation Director Jerry Orr said Wednesday. "This is a huge step up. Our passengers have suffered and we've been embarrassed for a long time."
The new Concourse E is spacious, well lit and, already, too small. The airport will park 32 planes at its 26 gates, and may add more gates as soon as next year.
Still, "If you were a passenger, you would want to fly through Charlotte," said Terri Pope, US Airways station manager.
