US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - GP and SP traveling together

Reading other posts got me thinking. I know we have a few GP that have SP girlfriends/boyfriends/wives/husbands/etc. If the GP and SP are traveling together and the GP upgrades the SP as their companion (thus using the 3 day window), does the GP have to use their certs for both people or can the SP use their own certs? I guess that if the SP used their own certs it would be circumventing the system since they would not really the GP "guest". I think the intention is that you are their "guest" but they chose to officially call it a companion. Frankly, I don't care whose certs they use as long as they are together. If they just met at the airport - that is another story. Also, the odds that it would cost me an upgrade are slim - and that's when it gets personal.

It's an interesting question that has a new twist with the SWU rules. Say you have a Chairman's and Gold couple. If you upgrade yourself 7 days in advance both ways using Chairman's rules, but present DMUPSYS2 in the Chairman's name on the way out, and in the Gold's name on the way back, will there be any troubles?
I'm sure many people are in a situation like this, especially considering Gold-and-Silver couples who both get two -- each enough for one way for two people -- and would love to use the 3 day window for both ways.

As some here are aware, both my wife and I are both Gold. Although, our situation is not one of two different levels of elite, our experiences might be helpful. When we travel together, we generally use whichever NAU's are the oldest, regardless of whose name they are in. We have never had a problem with this.
Also, when we made a trip to Europe last year, the agent at our home airport 'forgot' to collect our SWU's. On our return, I made sure that we used my SWU's for that flight leaving my wife's certificates intact for a future business trip for her. There was no problem at check-in in Europe doing this.
We are a CP/Gold couple and have always used my status for the window - and of course domestically he gets a comp upgrade as my traveling companion.. so he gets to save all his certs for when he isn't traveling w/ me..

We are a Gold/Silver couple and have always upgraded at the three day window. If she has NAUs, we use one of mine and one of hers, If she doesn't we both use mine.

I'm a GP and have travelled with a non-Preferred several times. They have always been able to upgrade at my 3 day window (using my certs).
We also are a GP/SP team, although last year the wife made Gold. In the past, I would always upgrade us under mine, and when we checked in, we used the oldest NAU's, usually some of hers and some of mine. No one ever questioned who was on who's.

The real question is if GP/SP couple (such as my situation) upgrades at the GP window, can they instead use the SP's certs for one or both upgrades?
I believe the answer is they don't track this so yes you can.

My original question was not so much can it be done, but should it be done and will you do it. Also, will you do it with the new SWU. From the responses it is YES YES YES YES.
Not the intention of the program but a nice loophole which I have no problem with.

I dont think this is a loophole - but someone feel free to correct me if it goes against printed rules.
I see the 7/3/1 windows as 'upgrade timing privileges' as opposed to 'contracts with that member to provide coupons in their name for both travelers'. The coupons explicitly mention that they are good for 799 miles of upgraded travel. They also note that they can be used for the named elite, or a companion.
Thus, even if one uses their privilege and the other provides coupons, I see this as within the rules. Overall, loophole or not, I cant imagine its worth US's time to worry much about this.
Bureaucratically, this is better than having to deal with managing unexpired upgrades and giving out 500 miles each if only the "upgrade privileged" member is allowed to use coupons.
