for the first time in 5 years i did not qualify for silver preferred. i only did 15k on 3 round trips.(san fran, aruba and ft. laud) it was purely due to casts on my feet that made it very hard to travel. wrote us air a letter asking for a waiver for 2002. they basically wrote back "tough" i would think in this new world they would have allowed me to stay for 2002. already have 12k this year on airlines where us flies. guess my money is still good on other airlines

Right now they are running several challenges where you can achieve elite status by flying some set of miles/segments by say the end of either April/May. The exact number of miles/segments/fly by date depends on the challenge. Look in Bonus Code Thread to see if any are listed, and also call the DM service center. I also did not quallify in 01. I called several times, and in one call got an agent who signed me up for a challenge. Also in another call, they said to write to a supe to send a fax to request an exception. So often you can get dif answers dependong on who you talk too.

I am a little surprised that given your past years of loyalty, they did not just comp you to Silver. Did you write to the DM service center, or the consumer affairs department? You might write to the one you did not write to before to get a straight comp. It is often adviseable not to mention your prior communication. I.e. don't say I wrote, they denied me, me, help? This puts them in a position of having to reverse the prior employees decision. But if you just instead write I have been US3 for 5 years, my medical problems, I flew 12.5 this year, help? You likely would do better. I bet you that persistance will pay off here.
Just as a bench mark these challenges are often like 12,500 miles or 16 segments to get Gold status flown by say 4/30/02. Also you could send in a print out from the web site showing your current Silver status to any other airline, and you likely would get comp to Silver. But if you want to stick with US, you probably can get the Silver comp somehow.

I called them a few days ago because my Silver status is expiring and I was going to ask about a challenge. I have a lot of US flights coming up.

They offered to extend Silver another year automatically with no challenge. They said I should be getting my Silver package. I was a little surprised, but then again AA did it so why shouldn't US?
