Caribbean - BGI/DCA Return from Barbados

We will return to DCA from BGI stopping in CLT
Our U S Airways flight from BGI to DCA shows stopping in CLT
and notes that there is no plane change

It is my understanding that upon arrival in CLT we will need to
disembark the plane, get our luggage, go through customs and immigration,
go back through security and re board the plane.
Is this correct?
How much time do we need?

correct, you need to go through immigration & customs with all your luggages the FIRST port you land in the States regardless where your final destination is(whether in the USA or transit/transfer to other countries).
