A good customer service story to balance the bad ones: midnight call from USAir telling me that my 0630 FAY-CLT flight was weather canx--the lovely 5" of new snow we have made this no surprise. Rebooked the whole trip, including confirming FC on the CLT-DFW leg without even asking (I had already upgraded the original flight). They would have put me on Delta, the only other carrier out of FAY, but their flights were later (that and I would walk before flying Delta thru ATL during bad weather).

In the year that I have exclusively flown US, this is the 3d canx flight, and each time I was called well in advance, told the reason (novel concept), and given options on rebooking. I know canx flights are part the deal, so that does not bother me. What always annoyed me was not finding out until arriving at the AP, or having to call. In my time on Delta and AA, I never got called in these situations. My dad is an AA 2xMillionMiler, and he had never been called. So I would offer credit to US where it is due here. I think this is pretty good customer service.

Thanks bg1001. Nice to hear the good from time to time as well...

My recent experience on a roundtrip out of DCA, through PHL to Rome were very positive as well. The FCO check-in agents and gate agents were, by far, the most pleasant and professional I've experienced at any of the US European gateways. The FA's on all 4 flights were great as well. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Of course, there was this gate agent in PHL... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I agree. The FCO agents were much friendlier and calmer than the ones I encountered in CDG.

mmm.. I think it's partially dependent on how you approach them.

I had a positive experience with the FCO crew, but also some very good ones with teh FRA crew. The PHL people confuse me a little with "The Boarding Game" they play vis-a-vis upgrades for Silver and Golds and CP's. They seem to do it right AT boarding, which of course causes a bit of a herd effect.

I guess the assumption is that Bruce Springsteen is going to walk up 30 secs before boarding and buy the entire inventory or something. It would sincerely make more sense to me to release at least some of the seats a bit earlier, but, then again, maybe that's one of those mysterious "things".

Or they're just trying to keep us out of the Envoy lounge. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I have also gotten calls recently re: cancelled flights. Was on a dreadfully early Sunday AM PHL-FLL flite, had a call waiting on my machine Saturday nite, stating it was cancelling due to crew availability and to call the (general) 800 #. Called the gold line, was already rebooked on a later flite. Bonus = got to sleep in.

Just last nite they called re: ABE-PIT-DEN in February; schedule changes forcing them to rebook me ABE-CLT-DEN. Bonus = I would have been about 20 miles short of a tier by Feb 28th, now I will be 12 miles over! Thank you, thank you.

Wow....I would have thought that CLT is closer to most all west coast destinations than PIT.

DEN isn't on the west coast. LAX is closer to CLT than PIT, but SFO and SEA are closer to PIT, as CLT is further south.
