Before 9/11, I had a B class ticket originating in London on 9/22, coming to PIT, then back to Amsterdam in November. I had "paid for" this ticket with a $450 unused ticket from April and of course was charged a $100 change fee and the $800 fare difference. [The fare for the B class ticket otherwise would have been about $1400.]
When 9/11 happened, my trip that would have ended me up in London got cancelled. All fare rules, fees, etc were in limbo. I needed to change dates of the above ticket. I walked into the PIT CTO. The agent said the easiest thing would be for her to just refund me everything for this ticket (original $450, $100 change fee, extra $800) to the credit card I bought it with. But I had just switched credit cards, and no longer had it.
So she had to do the manual refund paperwork and send it to Crystal City with the 3 items. She said it would take a few weeks, and then just rebooked me on a different itinerary with this ticket and I paid for it without change fees of course.
A few weeks later, I got the credits for the original $450 ticket and the extra $800, but not the $100 change fee.
Was this not refundable? When the CTO agent offered to refund it, I assumed it was legit. Now I am wondering if a bean counter in Virginia dis-allowed it.
What should I do? While ideally I'd like the money, a voucher might be acceptable. Is this worth pursuing?
