Will be going back to Kennedy Space Center the second time in so many years.. We want to do something different.

There is the regular admission ($43), admission with 2 hour tour ($67, admission with lunch (astronaut in attendance, $67), admission with tour and lunch with an astronaut ($90).. and various other packages. Any suggestions?

Well, it is pricey, but there is the Astronaut Training Experience (ATX)

I considered this package.. sounds awesome.. with 2 small kids, it would probably pose a bit of difficulty..

How do you think it would work with kids on this package?

Probably not too well, unless you can convince Mrs. A.M. or another adult in your party to watch the children while you spend 1/2 day on the ATX program.

The real value of KSC tickets is that they are good for 2 days in a 7 day period. And there is plenty to do in 2 days.....If you do the bus tours, see all the IMAX movies, and visit the other exhibits. I know, by reading your other posts, that you will be in Orlando for your trip. I do not know if you will want to make the 1 hour+- drive twice. I guess it depends on how much you like NASA/Space travel stuff.

By the way...The Space Shuttle Discovery is currently on the Launch Pad waiting to be cleared for liftoff. The mission is currently delayed due to problems and will not launch until Feb 3, 2011 at the earliest. You should be able to see the shuttle (from a distance) during your visit.

Thanks.. I don't think Mrs. A.M. would be happy if I took a half day for just myself.. Which package do you guys' think would be best for the kids?

Will be there 3 weeks from December 15th, 2010 to January 5th, 2011.. Few others mentioned the space shuttle launch postponed. It would be neat to hit it sometime in the future.

This is slightly OT, but "Free" may be of interest to some. Just saw this on Disboards: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2611778

Hurry, hurry, hurry!

If you are into history, the "Then and Now" tour is definitely worth taking. This tour starts on the Air Force side of the Cape where the first Explorer launches took place. You get to go in the blockhouse where the first exploration satellites were launched from, as well as see the launch site from which the first Mercury launches took place.

This tour also stops at the ruins of complex 34 where the crew of Apollo 1 died in the fire in the capsule in January of 1967. Being on that pad evokes more feeling than just looking at the names on the Astronaut Memorial.

You will also go by several launch pads for the unmanned launches, do have your camera ready. With any luck, you will see a rocket or 2.
