I have a friend who has an award and wants to fly out from columbus to portland in july for a golf trip but there are no reward flights available. I was wondering if they would allow him to book columbus to vegas or any other city then hop on the next flight to portland and return on another date using only 1 reward ticket. Is this possible or would they count it as 2 one ways there and 2 back?

Thanks and if there are any suggestions out there let me know.

Each "reward ticket" is two individual one way bookings. They don't have to be linked in any way when booked.

If I understand you right, you're asking about a non-scheduled routing, and it's addressed in section 4.4 of the Wiki FAQ linked from the sticky thread at the top of this forum. If you can connect between flights with award availability that meet the minimum connect time and are under the maximum of 4 hours between flights, you can get it to price as one one-way award.

Wow that's great information. I recently joined the SouthWest program (credit card, round trip flight and $500.00 deal) so I've read through the Wiki but I must have missed that information.

Thanks for posting!

But I thought that only applied if they didn't already offer service between the departure and arrival cities? I tried to book PVD to FLL via St Louis using a single std awd and was told it wasn't a valid because SW had service from PVD to FLL. Was i misinformed?

For that trip, as an award booking, it could be an issue that that each of those legs requires a connection (at least for the date I checked). That priced requesting the A and B coupons (watch for that since they just charge a $5 security fee implying one change). If I tried PVD-BWI-FLL, with each leg being a non-stop, they were just going to take the A coupon (but the award was also available when requesting PVD-FLL; I haven't tested where where the non-scheduled routing was the only way of getting the award).
