Los Angeles - Curbside drop off allowed LAX

But we usually take the shuttle, however this time a friend is dropping us off...

so wondering can private vehicles drop off passengers and luggage at Terminal 4 (AA) at LAX...

As long as your friend doesn't linger too long, not a problem. There are usually curbside check-in facilities (skycaps) as well as luggage carts to "rent" if you want to take your bags into the terminal and not check-in curbside. Your biggest hassle could be traffic, with many people using the white zone not just for loading and unloading (some people also park in the areas supposedly reserved for hotel shuttles, etc.).
