this is probably a dumb question... but i just want to make sure.

i know, to get past security now, you must prove you are a ticketed passenger (same date).
just wanted to check, for those of you using youth packs, or any other kind of trade-in commuter pass-type tickets:

are we indeed required to check-in at the initial counter area to get ticketed first?
in the past i just walked in and got ticketed at the shuttle counter right next to the gates by handing over my youth pass booklet.

It will probably vary from airport to airport to some extent. However, I know someone who presented a youth pack coupon at security and was allowed to proceed to the gate. The youth/senior pack coupons are generally issued as open tickets between the two shuttle cities.

slightly off topic but two or three weeks ago the delta shuttle security people at lga marine terminal made us check in and receive boarding passes to enter.. might have something to do with the "s" printed on some boarding cards..

I flew Delta Shuttle with my student pack last week and basically the procedure should be that you need to have a DATED ticket in order to cross in to security.
When I was trying to get through the security at DCA, they looked for a second to make sure that there was a date printed on my boarding pass. I think it all depends on the person who is at the security gate and what airline they are from. If multiple airlines share duties at a gate, i.e. if there is AA, US, and DL in one gate, chances are if you have a US rep checking they will know, but that may not be so for an AA rep.

Personally, i think it is always best to check in at the counter before security if you can. Unless you are pushing the 3 minute rule.....
