Seriously, should I call and try to go for the gold challenge? I made silver either on reduced or on pure miles. Frankly I'm not sure which.. To explain.. I had 14K miles before this months stuff posted. Got double miles on a couple of flights and poof.. 30K miles. So either way I'm silver.

I have a roundtrip planned ORF-PIT-SAN that should give me easy another 4800miles.. 9600 with the Double miles and THAT puts me at 40+K for the year.

So.. should I register for the Gold challenge?

Your thoughts?

Bouncer,

I could be wrong, but I believe you will need an additional 12,500 actual flight miles by 12/31. Any miles you have flown to qualify for the silver chalange are not counted. Also, the 40,000 miles you speak of appear to count bonus miles, which do not count for status. In the past 5 weeks, we have flown 2 transcons and a CT-FLA, giving us about 13,000 flight miles, but include the bonus miles and bam, 65,000 miles.

I would wait for additional confirmation from some of the more experienced FT'ers, but I think you might not have enough for Gold this year.

irabk is right. To make the Gold Challenge, you need to accumulate 12,500 preferred miles. Bonus miles do not count towards this number. It just actual miles flown or the 500 miles minimum per segment. Note that someone recently posted here that US will retro credit for any flights made after 10/1/01 for this challenge.

Although I have had not any personal experience with this, there is one type of bonus miles that does count towards preferred miles (not sure if it would apply to the challenge promo). This is the bonus given for flying in First Class if the fare basis code for your ticket is F or A.

Hmm.. well that would mean I could use the 8000 or so miles (non-bonus) that I've flown between 10/01 and today?

Yes, it sounds like with the 4800 miles for your upcoming ORF-SAN trip combined with your ~8000 preferred miles since 10/1, you'll have >12,500 miles you need to make silver via the challenge.
