My 2 SWU expire 3/31/02. I couldn't think of anyway to use them to the UK or Europe this year so I used one on CLT-SFO. What a waste. I feel sick. Any better way to use them? Returning them for 500 mi. isn't any better.

In F, they eliminated the tableclothes, menus, and (at least this FA) tried not to offer drinks except with the meal.

If I remember correctly, there's no good answer with the SWU -- use them as best as one can.

You can't return SWUs for miles (AFAIK). That's not so bad. I've thrown out six SWU's already and might throw out six more. So you know NOTHING about pain http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I just got back from doing a BUF-PHL-LAX round trip in F and we were given menus for both breakfast and dinner flights. We were also served drinks throughout the flight. Based on my experience, there wasn't any impression that the airline was cutting back (with the exception of missing hot towels, blankets, and pillows). All in all, I thought it was a great trip. Maybe you hit a bad flight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I too, feel your pain. I'm wasting mine PIT-SEA-PIT in a few weeks. OTOH, I've done Envoy on miles, so I don't feel too badly http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

For anyone who has upgrade certificates laying around, USAir is currently offering incredibly great fares to Europe (in the $260-360 range for London, Brussels and Amsterdam). Why not grab one of these fares, upgrade to business class with the SWU, try for an inexpensive hotel on Priceline or Hotwire, and have yourself a great extended weekend?

If there are reasons why you can't do Europe in the remaining months, then using the SWU for a cross-country domestic trip is the next best use of the certificate. No need to feel sick if that's what you've done; it's the smart alternative, since SWUs can't (to my knowledge) be traded, sold or given away.
